The Handmaids Tale TV show

Post by mrbadger » Thu, 26. Apr 18, 09:10

i note this has a season 2

I haven't watched it yet and I'm a bit confused.

Is it based on the Atwood book, or a straight adaption. I was waiting to buy it on Blu ray for my birthday and rip it for my home streaming collection, but I thought is was an adaption. Season based shows can get cancelled, ones that are based on books can be altered to keep going if they develop a following. Margaret Atwood's work was superb, I have no interest in a commercialised TV version that loses her main socio-political point.

Some TV adaptions can be good, and I had my hopes for this one, till I saw the season two stuff in my news feed today.

I read the book when it was first published and I watched the first series of the TV show last year. I can't answer the question of how close the latter is to the former for the simple reason that the elapsed time between the two events was too long, but can say that I enjoyed both of them on their own merits.

It's £30 on blu-ray, then there's the effort of ripping and tagging (well, watching as tools I bought and Handbrake do it for me) so I'll need to be rather sure I'll like it first.

The first movie adaption was sort of ok, if shallow, but they shied away from the rather dark ending in the book. That at least is understandable, it was a movie after all.

Just passing through (seeking any info on X4) ...Have read and watched Handmaids Tale .... The book was better {usually the case) ,, the tv version was sexed a little more..... but both enjoyable (a slight stretch maybe considering the subject matter),,, more thought provoking.
Only two books have ever made me sad and angry ,, Handmaids Tale and Jude the Obscure.....

I've not seen the tv show, but the book is brilliant.

Watched the show twice in the first season. "Adaptation" is the best explaination. Liked the book, the show not so much. A bit "trendier" vision than the book envokes.
