There are ammo factories in Argon Prime, Nathan Voyage, and Family Tkr.

Theone in Argon Prime is almost always empty......I can usually get a box
or two at a time from there.

Most of the time I can get some from the Equip Dock in Three Worlds.....just not very much.

as scarecrow says buy a factory
then put the price to max.... you will get a nice supply and the AI will buy them for a tidy profit.

Go see the factory in Tharka's Sun. It can't get rid of it's produce without help.
Maverick: Requesting permission for flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That's a negative ghostrider, the pattern is full.
Goose: No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.
Maverick: Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz a Split.
Split: Split now give you .... Aaaarrriiiigh.

Found most of mine from hidden containers in factories.

Tharka's Sun is the place for ammo, I bought 300+ crates of the stuff there once, that will last me a while.

Just got the mass driver on a Nova.
How many shots in a crate? I'm carrying 34 but this could be overkill - especially as I fly it from a base Elephant TL loaded with fighter junk anyways.

200 shots per crate. So it last a pretty long time, especially if you're only using it for the nova's rear turret. Very effective weapon in that role. I keep about 20-25 crates in the hold at a time in my Nova, but that's because I use them in front too.

If you're going to get really really serious about Mass Drivers (like on a Titan, or using them full time on your personal fighters main guns), you definately want to build your own Ammo factory. They are really easy to get going and have pretty low resource requirements.

Thank you Jack.

I load 2 in front but just as a scalpel when I'm capturing ships or occasionally when I get narked by zippy M5 khaak scum.

200 shots per crate, and each bullet does 12 hull damage - so on a Khaak M3 with 6,000 hull you'll need 2½ crates. I usually carry 10 - 15 crates or so in my Mamba with a lot of spare stock held in my TL.

It's great fun using a Mamba with MD's against the zippy Khaak M5's (although Wasp missiles are also pretty useful), plus you can really improve your hit % - the firing rate is so fast its difficult to miss. After a long session bashing clusters my % hit ratio went up from 58 to 68%. No special prizes, but I just like better numbers ....

After quantum, ammo is one of the best performers. I can always sell at top price!

The Mass Driver is not the ideal weapon to use against Khaak M3's... Really, its effectiveness against fighters is best seen against M5's.

Anyway. The weapon fires at 20 rounds per second, and each crate is 200 rounds. You're probably firing a pair of them. So each crate of ammunition will last you 5 seconds of sustained firing. Quite a bit, really. 30 crates is enough to see you through many dogfights.

And yeah. Shop at Tharka's Sun for ammunition. :) Nobody else seems to buy there. I bought 300 crates about 9 or 10 game-days ago, and still have half of it left.

MD's are especially effective when capping. Whittle all the ships that attack you at a pirate base you attacked down to 87%, then just switch to Ions.
