graphics card recommendations....
im tired of the immsense lag my fleet gives (60 baracudas, condor, serval distroyer vessels) and my homesystem is lagging lik hell (its got near 80 stations in it) on my 1.8 ghz, nvidia Gforce 2,
so im building a whole new comp,
ill sort msot things out in the shop, but what graph card would you guys recommend? (not 2 expensive).

I'm currently running a Geforce 4 ti4200 (128Meg) unit and it's ok, but a bit laggy once you build more than 10 fabs in a sector.
Just picked up a FX5950 (256Meg) and I will let you know how it does once it arrives
What is the rest of the spec for the comp. There is no point in putting an overpowered graphics card into an 'average' system?
P.S. rest of my comp spec:- 2.4Gig P4, 512Meg Ram, nice quick mobo, SB512 and a huge harddrive.

The rumour is that nVidia is the best for this game.
I have a P4 2.4 with an ATi 9800 256MB G-card and a Gig of Ram and it's fine till you get to busy sectors like Thynns Abyss.
I reckon the situation you're talking about will always generate lag unless you get a supercomputer.

Get a big a processor as you can afford, then get the Graphics Card yourself. Check out PC Gamer or something like that to find the best performance for your money.
You can get a Gainward Ti4600 for about a hunderd notes at the moment.

i'll keep this short cause i can't be bothored to read all the other posts lol, u could spend about £400 on a geforce fx6800, which is the latest geforce card, or a little less for £<300> - geforce fx5950 ultra (what i got), it runs anything, and if u'v ever ran the battle of proxycon demo on the 3d bench mark thingy, let me put it this way, on 800x600 u get 69fps, on 1024x768 u get 49fps
so either way its good, or u could just get a simple old 5900 ultra

I'm running a P4 3.2 GHz 800MHz FSB
1 gig of 3200 ram
ATI 9800PRO 256mb ram
i play w/ max settings @ 16x12 res
runs prefect, no lag ever!
my 2nd system is more midline
P4 2.4 GHz 800MHz FSB
1.25 gig of 3200 ram
Nvidia 4200 w/ 64mb ram
i play w/ only bump maps @ 1024x8 res
this system runs fairly well, slight lag once in a while
i think a better graphics card would improve the system greatly
both boards are intel 875s

AMD 1.7 Ghz
Pro ATI 9500 Radon 124 MB
724 (I think) DDR RAM
80 GB Hard Drive
1024*768 with bump Map and one of them is on, not sure, it's some 3-d text,
I has been play, so far no lag but however it's dose crash to desttop very few time, rare, but I only have 4 factarys and one each sectors at that points

I'm running a Geforce 4 Ti4200 right now. It runs X2 pretty well, except in a sector like Priest's Pity with the huge, brightly colored nebulas. It can do basically any of the stuff that a monstrous card like the 5900 Ultra can do, just runs a little slower. I've started putting X2 on "Abovenormal" priority on Task Manager when running, and it runs even smoother.

AMD Athlon 64 3700+
Sound Blaster Audigy
Geforce 6800 GS

I play the game on:
AMD AthlonXP 2600+
512MB DDR PC2700
ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB
If i have bumpmapping and/or shadows on, it shows it right down, i think Egosoft need to twak the graphics engine to make it more efficent.
My current setup will play Half Life 2 @ Full Settings, but i will have shadows off, since they are useless on this game.
So i don't see any reason why i shouldn't be able to play this game smoothly with everything on except shadows, which are rather craply done anywayz.
