Catching space flys idea

I noticed, that if you fire your Ion D at a cluster of space flies, it goes inbetween all of them, either stunning them or killing them and making them available for picking up. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just a normal thing and I'm making a fool of myself?

If you buy a space fly collector you can then scoop the space flys into your cargo hold. Ion Disrupter+space fly collecter is how you get in the space fly collecting business. :)

I knew that you could collect them with a space fly collector but I didn't know if other people had noticed this or whether it was what you had to do to pick them up.
