Proof about the lottery? (Potential Spoiler)
This thread here got me thinking (No, it didn't hurt ). Previously I was a believer in the lottery, but now I have seen the light!
2,000,000,000 is the limit to your account, right? What's the usual prize fund on a lottery draw? Way more than that. 50,000,000,000, maybe more.
You can't win the lottery, simply because you can't fit the winnings in your account!
CBJ also mentioned in an ancient thread that it would be a good idea to implement the lottery because you wouldn't need to put the code in for winning. (The thread was asking for Station Announcement suggestions... don't have a link)
Edit: typo'd numbers

Your account limit is 2billion not million
[edit]Now that it is amended can someone confirm the lottery winnings that are claimed and then report back?[edit]

I personally think the lottery either doesn't work or the chances are so low nobody is likely to win it.
I recall a dev saying that the ~2bn limit would be avoided by paying it in installments... (How this would work, I haven't a scooby, but I'm positive it was a dev that said it... I t'ink it was a German dev.)
I recall that Bernd asked for ideas on the lottery. Making it give out ships or stations as prizes would be good (suggested long ago by many...)
Jasp

Hi,
Personal opinion - There is no lottery. At least, there is no draw. Or at best, such a low chance of winning as to be ridiculously unlikely. I have yet to see anyone post any decent proof of having won, and I'm sure that once someone did genuinely win there would be some confirmation from the devs that they were the first or whatever.
Yet I still buy a ticket EVERY time! What does that say about me????
Cheers,
Rob.

Interesting that you noticed that. The post in question is here. However, you might also notice that I posted that a mere 3 weeks or so after I first joined the forum. I wasn't a moderator then, nor had I even signed up for DevNet, so anything I said was just an evil idea hatched in my own mind rather than a reflection of what might or might not happen. Who knows what the actual code looks like?esd wrote:CBJ also mentioned in an ancient thread that it would be a good idea to implement the lottery because you wouldn't need to put the code in for winning. Wow!! I didn't even know Egosoft was taking suggestions for X2... darn it maybe I really should have put in some time here after Xt way back when. Back then I just signed up thinking I'd write missions for the then upcoming X2, but didn't really find the time. Got all those DevNet emails and stuff but they dried up presumably coz I didn't register again or something, I forget.
Could have gotten something immortalised in X2!

I thought (and yes, it DID hurt) that the lottery had had an overhaul in 1.4.
Very occasionally you will see lottrey tickets for sale which mention 2nd and 3rd prizes of ships.
I also recall long (very long) threads with bored statisticians argueing about your odds to win if there was a true lottery calculation going on, I forget now, but it worked out somthing equivilent to being struck by lightening on the same day a winning the real National Lottery in the evening after you rode Red Rum to victory in the English Grand National.
(Yes, I know Red Rum was apparently turned into dog food by the Great Irish Nationalism Conspiricy, the odd's of winning were fairly long)

I just look at it as giving credits to a good cause, like the Mi Ton home for abandoned children, or Rehab for the royal princesses.
You never know it could be you!
I belive that there must be a chance to win something, I doubt if the first prize will be won, but maybe smaller winnings can be achieved. There would not be any point in having a "Lotterys Won" stat in your personal stats, if you couldnt.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's b****r all down here on Earth.

As I keep saying, the lottery has a win condition with a finite chance of winning. I've seen the code. The lottery emails you if you win (in-game, that is) some time after you purchase a ticket.
Nobody's been lucky enough to have this snippet of code run yet, but it does exist.
