Shadow problems
For some reason all the people in the videos are near solid black, like there is no lighting hitting them. It makes them all look like they are giant shadows. Really agrivating and I wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem.
This is almost certainly because your graphics card does not support the full range of DirectX8 functionality in hardware. If you are using a PC with an Intel Extreme graphics chipset or similar, then I'm afraid it simply isn't capable of showing the full graphical functionality of the game. The good news is that it normally only affects the cutscenes, so, apart from the display possibly being a little darker than it should be, you should be able to play the game itself without too many problems.

Wow, I feel so special. :)
It's a 16MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra. It's mostly just windows, and certain bits of trim on ships, and some stations. It makes it look a bit like I've been sucked into the TRON universe.

A 16Mb ATI Rage 128 Ultra?
I'm actually amazed you've even managed to get the game to run. The minimum requirements for the game include a 32Mb graphics card. I think we can safely say that any graphical anomalies you see are a result of the hardware you are using.
May I ask what kind of performance you get from the game with that card? And also what processor and RAM your PC has?

Yes, me name Oog. Me big flashy calculator make much grinding noise when playing fancy, big game.
This PC actually belongs to my folks, so I'm not totally surprised at this one. Get this:
P4 1.6 GHz
256 Mb Ram
16 MB vid card
It's like having a big-ass entertainment center with surround sound and a 12" b&w TV.
If you're actually interested in performance, it's not TOO bad, apart from that wacky mouse sensitivity issue, and I haven't had too much luck in a fight so far.
Still very excited about playing this game. I loved the Privateer games, X2 looks WAAAY cooler!

Well, the rest of the PC spec looks OK, so that shouldn't slow things down too much. I guess with fewer fancy graphics to worry about, the card can just get on with throwing polygons around.
If you are having problems with the mouse, then try using the keyboard to control the ship. Don't install any Rudder Optimisations on smaller ships (anything below an M6), and if the worst comes to the worst, let the ship do the fighting on autopilot.
Good luck!
