Anyone tried to destroy a mine with the mining laser

Post by Skeeter » Wed, 20. Apr 05, 16:07

I know its a station but it is still an asteroid, so can you destroy them with ease like u can, with a mining laser of course not other weapons i mean, when there is no station built on.

Another idea is that you can steal ore/silicon by blasting the asteroid parts of ore/silicon mines and nick there resources for your own profit mwhahaha. Doubt it will ever work or be in a future x game though.

Not sure, once you convert it to a station it gets sheilds so you would have to blast through them first i guess... :?

Mining lasers actually do a lot of damage to both shields and hull, so against a big stationary target like a mine they'd be extremely effective--more so than GHEPTs, believe it or not!

I tried it on a planet once. Sadly, nothing happened :)

The drilling laser is very good at destroying ships, with the exception of it being slow and having a low range.
I used it on a disco, instant dust.

I dont thnk you'd get any yeild, but it would certainly be a highly effective weapon. I used to use it for defense when I was in the mobile Mineing trade, many an Orinoco (well, a few) were mined by it.

Mining laser saved my butt early on in my first game of X².
Mobile mining in Seizewell when a cluster spawned on top of me!

I wrote a short tale about it: it's here.

Take a look at Home of Light, to name one sector. It's what happened when the Xenon 'mined' the local planet.

I was actually doing a little a 'little' mobile mining in the Colossus so I gave it a try....Sent the Demeter round the back and pounded on a local Ore Mine with the mining laser....Its shields dropped to just below 70% and slowly came back up....Tried to help matters along with a dozen or so Hornets but no joy....The AI treat them as stations and not as asteroids so I doubt very much that they would re-spawn.

Actually that's the only way to permanently detroy an asteroid.
Build a mine on it and then destroy the mine.
Destroying the asteroid will result in it respawning.
Planting a mine will remove the asteroid and replace it with a Mine.
Destroying the mine will result in the mine going missing off someone's ledgers.
