Stuck at main menu - Resolved by changing resolution.

Post by Valykry » Sun, 8. Aug 21, 02:47

As the title says, I get stuck at what I believe is supposed to be the main menu (No menu appears)
Upon booting the game, I get through the intro Logo's (Egosoft and such, skipable by 'esc'),then a loading screen which is simply "X Rebirth" over an image of what appears to be the docking bay of a capital ship. Then it loads what I assume is the Main Menu screen. Animated image with background music. Except the image is now playing at somewhere around one frame per second and no menu ever appears. The mouse appears to function normally, unless I use alt+z to bring up an Nvidia overlay, then the windows mouse icon seems to lag in time with the background image.

I've tried verifying the local files, and they check out. I've tried running in compatibility mode with windows 7, the last version that I myself am sure it ran with (This is a new machine running windows 10, last time I played was on a windows 7 laptop, but it worked) and I've done what I can to make sure it was running on DirectX , as my searches have said that sometimes that is the issue.

You can probably get a later Nvidia driver than that one from March, in case that helps. I don't have the rest of the DxDiag such as sound driver, error messages, etc and so cannot help any further.

It is usually best to disable non-essential overlays, background apps, and game managers, etc while playing in case they interfere. Meanwhile have a browse through this sticky in case of further clues.

If all else fails, you could try a clean uninstall/reinstall of the game as the Steam verify tool is not 100% effective in the case of file corruptions.

I'll check on the drivers.
I couldn't post the entire DxDiag here, it was too large and went over character limit. I can try posting the rest below if you like. I'll double check overlays. They should be off, but I may have missed one. If that fails, I'll try a reinstall. A corrupted file wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, you can indeed spread large text files over 2 or so consecutive posts. A more convenient way is to upload the big files to a reputable and spam/malware-free public fileshare site (many good ones are free to register for just occasional usage) and then just post the public access no-registration download link(s) here. This is also useful for saves and other data files.

If I did this right, this should be the full DXDIAG.
And I have already tried an uninstall and clean reinstall. Issue is unchanged. Game files should be good, so i'm either missing something, or there's one of those weird incompatibility issues with a piece of hardware despite it having good specs.

Thanks for the DxDiag and it looks pretty much OK right until the Windows Error Reports at the end of it. There are a few puzzling .dll issues reported, mostly to do with ASUS apps including ASUS Armoury Crate (a power and fan management app) and .Net Framework. These may not be directly related to your game issue but are neither common nor trivial issues - and that is why they are puzzling.

Is 1242 x 690 a 'native' and supported resolution for XR?

I don't have any further advice to give, sorry.

Apparently 1242x690 isn't supported. Adjusted that by an almost insignificant amount and it now loads the menu. No idea why the resolution defaulted to something other than what it showed as "recommended", unless it bases that recommendation on the current plugged in monitor but doesn't automatically switch with a new screen.

Much thanks.
