Mining Skills
Does anyone know how to level mining skill. My miners have been auto mining for 3 days but there still not to level 2 or 3. How do I unlock Advanced and Expert auto mining, I have been searching youtube, the internet and not finding any real information

Do you have full service crew at the ships?

Mining is one of the worst ways to level crew. They will hit around 2 + 2/3 stars and then seemingly stop levelling, especially if selling at a low price all the time.
Combat generally is better to level pilots and service crew, working to around 3 + 2/3 stars before becoming impractical. Exploring seems the best way to level, achieving 4 + 2/3 stars or even higher, but has the issue that there is a limit to stuff to explore. You can level piloting up to 5 star using seminars, but for 3 stars and above they have to be obtained from lock boxes or mission rewards and morale and service crew cannot be levelled like this. Service crew is best levelled on construction ships building stations, easily getting hundreds of specialist level crew after many hours, and this process can be scaled as required by repeatedly building and deconstructing dummy stations. However the best way to obtain high star captains is the flight school related to terraforming, but this is an end game tier feature due to the cost.

I’m still not sure why it needs to be so hard to obtain the folk you need to adequately run your assets. We can setup a galaxy spanning empire but we cannot get the right people, with the right skills to apply for jobs. I’m glad the flight school exists but, as you rightly note, it’s end game and too far down the line to be meaningful.
I love the variety of having varied skilled folk but it needs to be easier to find folk, I’d kindly suggest. Why can’t stations have a list somewhere of NPCs looking for jobs and what their hire fees/skills are? I can then choose based on what I can afford from the available pool and means that I’m aware how much on job training may/may not be required.

Marines reduce the mining efficiency, they are useless. Move them all to service crew or if they are good skilled marines, to a ship that you plan to do boarding.
Otherwise make them service crew.

FYI If you do war missions with the L miner as reward, usually the captain is 3+ skill
