How to OPT out of scrap?

I'm a pretty new player, trying to get through a Base Game play through with a few Quality of life mods.
So I don't believe I have access to any of the scrap ships; and I'm not much interested in them anyhow, but just now some sectors are starting to look like Tharka's Cascade; with all the wrecks piling up.

Is there a setting for opting out of the Scrap Patch, so wrecks will just disintegrate again when destroyed?
The stunning Game Art is one of my favorite aspects of the game; and having sectors that look like an abandon junk yard rather ruins that aspect of the game. Even if I was playing with full DLCs I personally would still prefer to nerf the whole scrap patch myself. Piloting a space garbage scow just does not appeal to me.

afaik, wrecks still despawn, even with scrap enabled. They just take a little bit longer.
