Distress calls and shortcut to zoom map to call.

I oftentimes miss distress calls from my owned ships, and I oftentimes only discover I lost a ship when I look into the logs well after the event happened.

What I would like is to be able to not only receive distress calls when one of my ships is attacked, but also maybe an icon that sits in an unobtrusive place, that I can click on that will open and zoom the map directly to the area where the distress call originated from, and that stays in place as long as the ship is alive and under attack.
Ive seen similar requests for this feature, and it doesn't seem like something too hard to implement.

Any suggestions on how I can better manage this now? I'm not super experienced in this game.
