Hanger Bays!

What is a hanger bay?

Its basically a dock with 2 M class and 8 s class landing pads ( don't even need a model you could just use a small dock)

What does it do?

S/m class ships assigned to the hanger bay will launch and engage any enemy that is attacking or harassing a subordinate of the station

But why?

In my games I have started to only use L class Traders and Miners because my M class Ships just die or are constantly harassed by Pirates

I love a lot of the M class ship models so its a shame I don't get to use them

Range?

I would Say 1 to 3 gates max

Just use escorts?

In my games I am also trying to reduce the amount of ships I have to give me better fps so giving each M class trader/Miner an escort will kill my fps when I have a large Empire

Just use Patrol?

I have tried Patrol sector but they just seem to Ignore enemies unless they get close to them by shear accident

Hanger bays would not fix every problem but it would be able to deal with the khaak tide in my mining sectors, keep the Pirates from stealing my cargo and help protect my poor Tugs while also creating more wrecks for them

I also think it would just be really cool

Instead of creating a new model, this function could be given to the existing equipment docks and maintenance bays. There is a discussion of this already where it is proposed to allow stations to use the new "position defense" function. This would be good since these modules can repair and rearm ships.
