[X4 HF1 SV + COH] BUG - Game Screen Resolution 1280x720 Fullscreen not selectable - Fix in a build after 5.10 Hf3.

Bug with choosing Game Screen Resolution

DXDIag + Vulkan Info
https://www.dropbox.com/s/x6jm0rixra3qa ... fo.7z?dl=0

Problem :

When choosing the Game Screen Resolution 1280x720, the game chooses a weird 1296x759

This is a problem because with my Laptops Screen Resolution in 1280x720, the game has the bottom of its screen chopped off, so that you cannot see the full message box, and also if you have the Games FPS counter on, that is also not visible.

I can only select Game Screen Resolution 1280x720 if I am in Game Window Borderless mode.

Following screenshots are in order of actions taken as per description for each :

Screenshot - Win 10 in 1280x720 - https://i.imgur.com/BXHDA1x.png

Screenshot - Game 1280x720 Borderless Window - https://i.imgur.com/jZ0uBqq.png

Screenshot - Changed to Fullscreen, but Game Screen Res is now 1296x759 - https://i.imgur.com/YkonZvN.png

Screenshot - Trying to change Game Screen Res back to 1280x720 - https://i.imgur.com/CRCOELI.png

Screenshot - Game insists on 1296x759 - https://i.imgur.com/mEB8qDr.png

Screenshot - In game, note bottom of screen is cut off not showing FPS Counter - https://i.imgur.com/JrgUQou.png

Screenshot - Change Game Screen Res back to Borderless Window 1280x720 - https://i.imgur.com/1ouFr7I.png

Screenshot - In game, FPS Counter now visible again.

I would very much like to run Full Screen 1280x720 same as my Laptop Screen Res, but currently that's not possible.

Edit : Note also in the first screenshot, I do not use any kind of Windows 10 Zoom setting, it's at the default of 100%

Another note about this ..

Sometimes even when I change to Borderless Window 1280x720 as a workaround to not being able to set fullscreen in that resolution, I can look in the Config.xml and find that even though the in-game settings shows I have 1280x720 set, the game has set the weird 1296x759 anyway. So I have to set it again.

Hi, at the moment I don't have any good ideas for what could be going on, and I need to focus on other crash issues so please be patient.
Also borderless is generally preferred (unless you have to change from native resolution) and performance wise is the same as fullscreen.

Questions:
1. is the current non-beta official release fine?
2. if you manually set 1280x720 in the config file and start game in borderless does it still show the weird resolution in the settings menu?

Yep I understand
Also borderless is generally preferred (unless you have to change from native resolution) and performance wise is the same as fullscreen.
I do need to change from native resolution for my eyesight, higher resolution besides being less optimal for my laptop performance (and making it warmer which is the bigger concern with regards to resolution than performance is) also means all text even with scaling is too small, and other in game details like looking for distant ships / objects.
Questions:
1. is the current non-beta official release fine?
2. if you manually set 1280x720 in the config file and start game in borderless does it still show the weird resolution in the settings menu?
1. No, its been this way since before I posted the issue in March, and all versions since.

2. ..

a) Just a quick check in game settings screenshot to show what we are starting with - 1296x759 - https://i.imgur.com/xprrwWy.png
in this res bottom of the screen is cut off, so I cannot see the in game FPS Counter when enabled

b) Quit game, set 1280x720 manually in the config.xml, save it, and load the game up again - https://i.imgur.com/8gnhN3u.png
the game still enforces 1296x759

c) With the game in Borderless mode, resolution is not selectable in game (ghosted out) but it does say 1280x720 - https://i.imgur.com/GGhF247.png
(I'm guessing that's locked in to be the same as the Windows Laptop resolution), however, the config.xml now has 1296x759 set, and changing it manually to 1280x720 .. the game will just set the config.xml back to 1296x759 when it loads again.
But at least the game stays in 1280x720 in Borderless mode, and the in game FPS Counter can be seen, even though the config.xml is wrong and enforced by the game to be wrong.

<trafficdensity>0.20</trafficdensity>
<res_width>1296</res_width>
<res_height>759</res_height>
<uiscale>1.1</uiscale>

Edit : Forgot to mention .. Native Screen Res for my laptop is 1920x1080, which for me even just using Windows 10 icons etcetera makes my eyes bad trying to do things.

Generally I was lead to believe that exclusive full screen mode is better for games because it gives the games direct control over presenting the display buffer rather than relying on the window/desktop management system to do so. This might hold back until other applications are ready or use an independent refresh rate resulting in larger total system latency or defeating latency benefits of variable refresh rate displays.

The resolutions available for selection in X4 might be automatically detected from various graphics APIs based on what the graphic driver exposes. It is possible that your graphic driver is listing a nonsense, non-native, resolution for some reason, such as the laptop manufacturer having not configured it correctly or maybe for a different panel on a different model. Some graphic drivers such as for Nvidia GPUs allow the creation of custom resolutions. Creating such a custom resolution for 1280x720 might help in this case as it may be added to the return results from API calls as an available resolution.

If it helps here is the lower end of the scale of Windows 10 Resolution settings for the machine in my signature

1296x759 is not among them.

Timon37 I will not be able to help further with this issue, I now have a new laptop (signature updated).
