Horrible sound/music in game. splash menu sounds perfect - Probably caused by changes made by a Stalker mod.

just got the game..when the loading screen comes on its sounds perfect..but in game is horrible. Very tinny, horrible hissing and So much treble it hurts my ears. i updated all drivers and windows updated. Check my audio settings and its all where it should be. all my other games sounds perfect...my headphones also have the same sounds in game for x4. any ideas before i have to return? thank you

We can't really offer much advice without more information. A DXDiag would be a good start (we normally ask for a vulkaninfo too, but since this is a sound-only issue, that's not necessary in this case). If you were able to upload a video somewhere demonstrating the sound issues, that might also give us a clue or two.

CBJ, here is a video i took of how it sounds..last night i changed the freq hz to a lower value, and worked..today..its all messed up again.

I was able to access the DXDiag, but have had to send an access request for the video. There are probably newer drivers for both your audio devices, but I wouldn't expect that to make a significant difference. Are you listening on the Realtek or the headphones?

Yikes! That definitely doesn't sound right, and certainly isn't what most people hear. I would suggest reinstalling those drivers, just in case, making sure you get the Realtek ones from their site rather than from Windows Update. I'd also suggest performing a full file verification on your game installation using the Steam (or GOG) client, just in case something has got corrupted.

i uninstalled all those mods and stalker itself...still does this..im so bummed

did all that. Updated all the audio drivers. And it is STILL doing this. i am beyond irritated now. i just threw 50 hard earned dollars out the window

The solution was in the link.

Replacing the OpenAL32.dll In the X4 directory with one from the mod fixed it.

So you need that dll so get the stalker mod again grab the dll and put it in x4 directory, should fix it. Unistalling stalker and mods doesnt fix it afaik.

Egosoft might wana consider adding this fix to the troubleshooting main post as this has popped up about 3 or 4 times now.

skeeter..i thought i had to uninstall it..so wait..or am i reading that wrong..you need that certain file from which mod in that stalker game? and then just replace the one in the x4 with that one?

The dll from that, u need it cos it messes up all openal games apparently. So get the mod that had it, get the dll put it from stalker mod into x4 folder and replace one in there and then try x4 again.
