"Game is already running" - X4 not starting after crash

Post by x30n » Sun, 9. May 21, 11:04

* Version and language (e.g. 1.0 English, etc.).

4.0. HF3 / English / Win 10 / GOG

* Whether or not your game is modified using any third party scripts or mods (see note below).

Modified, multiple extensions. Should be irrelevant

* Game start being played.

Argon default, should be irrelevant

* Exact nature of the problem, where and when it occurs and what you were doing at the time.

Game crashed. Had to close though (hard) kill signal. Since then the game refuses to start with a message: `Game is already running`
I assume it's some lock file that did not get reset due to the kill. Where is that file/lock entry?

* Any possibly relevant changes you have made to your game, system, or software before the issue occurred.

-1

* Where appropriate, additional symptoms, error messages, links to screenshots and crash dump files (see this FAQ entry).

-1

* Your system specifications in the form of a DxDiag report and vulkaninfo (see this FAQ entry).

Irrelevant

Thanks for any help

A complete re-install fixed the problem. Would still be nice to know how to fix this with a bit less effort.

If a reinstall fixed it then something local had most likely gone wrong involving the previous game installation (eg interference, corruption or modification). There is nothing that the devs can do to fix such internal issues.

"Modified, multiple extensions. Should be irrelevant" We hear that so often, and yet ...

You might find some echoes of your situation in this thread, if that helps.
