Where is my ship ? Downgrade in V5.1 - Devs on the case.
Where is my ship ?
With V5.1 I no longer have crosshairs that show me the direction to the ship.
In V3.3 I could still activate the crosshairs to quickly locate a ship. With 5.1 I only have the crosshairs when I am in close proximity to the ship in the 2d map. And yes, the crosshairs are turned on in the filter.
with crosshairs in V3.3:

without crosshairs in V5.1 (same Save):

I always used the function to quickly find ships that had sent a radio message. I could then locate the ship by the small speaker icon. This is no longer possible with 5.1.
Here I had posted a small workaround for the problem with the radio messages (unfortunately no longer works with 5.1):

A very useful feature that was unfortunately disabled with 5.1.
Please dear Egosoft team, build this feature back in.

Re: Where is my ship ? Downgrade in V5.1
I also noticed this and found it very convenient before. I could immediately see where my ship was located. Regardless of the zoom level of the map. What is the point of the crosshairs if they are only displayed in the neighboring sector with a high zoom level?
I assume that this is a bug that disables the crosshairs at low zoom levels and I hope that Egosoft will fix this 'little thing' and bring back the crosshairs when viewing the whole map.
Maybe this is just a value that needs to be changed. I have looked at the .xml files, but unfortunately have not found a value that could change the behavior.

I think it's part of the whole series of map changes the devs made. Note that before v5.x, you could see the sector names when zoomed out. Now you can't. Also note that you can see your assets, not just your player ship, prior to 5.x, but not now. In fact, you have to now zoom several levels in to see either of those, and you have to zoom way in to see station names. It's all part of an attempt by Egosoft to declutter the map, but in my opinion it went a bit too far.
So it's not a bug, unfortunately.

That would be a real pity, meaningful and useful information is simply removed.
Here something must be changed fundamentally in the design. This is chaos.
To improve the design, the solution is not to remove useful information, but to fundamentally change the map design.
I have two simple suggestions:
1. movable windows
2. change the transparency of the windows or make the transparency of the windows adjustable and add window frames, so that the windows stand out more clearly from the map.
I think that would already contribute a lot to the clear view.

Yes, this would contribute to a better overview.
I would also like to see the crosshairs back in the overall map view and not just in the sector. I also used the workaround to quickly find ships from which a radio message was sent. Also to teleport myself to the ship (IS combat) or to help the pilot decide whether to flee or cooperate.
Unfortunately, this is no longer possible since 5.0.
That was easy: Radio message comes-> pause -> map view -> go through the list of possible ships on the left side -> the ship was identified by the loudspeaker symbol above the crosshair on the map.
Since 5.0 I now have to display every possible ship directly on the map. This takes forever with many freighters and is no fun. Above all, it is annoying when a function that was used extensively before no longer works. And there is no replacement for it.

Re: Where is my ship ? Downgrade in V5.1 - Devs on the case.
I just noticed one more thing as an argument why the crosshairs are very important at max zoom out.
I wanted to add an escort to several freighters. I wanted to assign the freighters closest to my escort fighters first.
But I can't find the freighters on the map. I have the sector names in the left window, but I don't know the map by heart. Before with crosshairs I could immediately see where the selected ships are. Now this is impossible. I just wanted to say again that there are other useful uses for the crosshairs.
I hope the crosshair will come back.

Just wanted to let you know, with V6.0 the Crosshair is back in its original form. Thanks to Egosoft for bringing back this very useful feature (or fixing the bug?).

Not really important enough to dredge up a year-old thread that may confuse other forum readers.
