Scrap Processor traffic jam 5.10 HF 3 (479084) - 2022-06-21

Hi, i have some odd behavior with my scrap processor, i have 4 manticore delivering scrap in Getsu Fune, some have the scrap cubes that VIG ships are making, the just sort of fly around and no drop them off, which seems to cause ships with wrecks to not drop off their ships.

This is both in sector and OOS, they just fly around like idiots, i do have a terran defense disc sticking off the drop off end of the processor. Do the manticores only drop off stuff if there is enough energy cells to process it? If so that is a bummer, you can drop off silicon and ore if you can not process it.

The drop-off compactor modules have limited throughput. They can only process 1 piece of scrap (wreck or cube) at a time, and the amount of time taken to process and amount of scrap gained is somewhat related to the amount of raw scrap that was delivered. I think for player convenience the drop offs have an additional buffer to accept wrecks from the player, but this has no impact on AI use.

In theory 1 compactor module can support 4 commonwealth processing modules. In practice this is not the case due to inefficiencies such as drop off delay and low value cycles. A more reasonable ratio is 1 drop-off to 3 processing modules to allow room for some inefficiency. In Avarice a ratio as low as 1 to 2 might even be desired to help compensate for sector lockdowns due to the tide and assure large volumes of scrap is always available for recycling.

If using multiple drop-off modules, it has been reported that manticores fixate onto random drop-off modules even if the chosen one is busy and others are free and do not recalculate their choice until the drop-off is complete. Due to this random nature it is entirely possible for manticores to end up circling in an apparently degenerate way while some drop-offs are free. The solution is more drop-offs to compensate for this inefficiency by reducing the chance that a chosen drop-off is busy with a long queue. The above-mentioned ratios do usually work out once scaled sufficiently and this issue should only really affect small stations of only a few drop-off modules and few subordinate manticores.

If this information does not help with your issue you will need to provide more information. For example, screenshots, not modified save files, e.t.c.

Kind of. I have one drop off point and one terran and one commonwealth module. I have a feeling that it needs power for the manticores to drop off the scrap, as my energy delivery ships have been more frequent and its solar cell are being built the drop offs seem more frequent.

It takes 10 Energy Cells to process 1 raw scrap. A single scrap cube (ToA DLC) can hold 1,000 raw scrap. This means 10,000 Energy Cells per raw scrap which is roughly a standard commonweath solar panel for an hour in a 100% sunlight sector. Scrap cannot be delivered until already delivered scrap has been processed which requires Energy Cells.
