Trouble getting a mod to work

ok let me start out that this my 1st ever time attempting to mod an x game im attempting to create a mod that basically creates some new weapons for the the split by using the exsisting neturon gatling and the plasma turrets as a template i took copies of those files from the game made my adjustments to the relavent bullet files in the assets/fx/weaponfx/macros bullets files made changes to the assets/props/weaponsystems/heavy/macro files to make changes to the description of said weapons created a wares.xml file to add selected weapons to split faction created a 001.xml containing said new descriptions for said weapons created a content.xml file used xtools to add all files and folders and created the ext_01.cat file and ext_01.dat files dropped those into my extension folder loaded up the game said mod shows up in the in game extension menu and shows as active
now heres the problem i loaded into the game check the split ship yards and low and behold no new weapons are added
am i missing something that i should be doing

any suggestions would be much welcomed

Looks like you forgot to add the new macros to the index.
