As the title really. I am aware balancing LOD is a tricky task, but there are times where it feels just a bit too close for comfort.
There are a number of ships (the builders come to mind) where the LOD leads to some odd model popping while reasonably close to the player. This mostly effects M+ ship sizes, and some stations.
While the engine is having a new version in place, can we please have an option to increase the LOD distance further? It'd be really nice if those of us with the hardware could reduce percieved pop-in. Again this mainly effects ships, btu a couple of the stations would benefit from it as well (notably the Teladi trading stations).
[Feedback] With the new tech, can we have an increase in max LOD range please?

So basically you want to "LOD Setting" slider to mean "further away" at 100% (or have it go beyond 100%)?
As a temporary workaround, if you feel comfortable with manually tweaking settings you could try the following, open the config.xml, find the line <lodfactor>0.5</lodfactor>.
The config menu slider limits this from 0 (=0%) to 1.0 (=100%) but you can manually change it to be larger here. Note: There is a limit of 2.0 (if you go higher it will be clamped to 2.0.
There is one side-effect, namely the "Graphics Settings" menu will not open anymore. So if you want to use the menu for changing other parameters, you need to revert the manual change to the lodfactor (to a value from 0.0 to 1.0) and then the menu will work again.

Wow, that's a really useful piece of information for increasing LOD, outside of hacking the .dat files or mods. Perhaps with the new engine, the limit could be increased beyond 2.0, at least for manually edited configs?rboerdijk wrote: ↑Thu, 2.
