[6.0 Beta 3] Unspecified crashes

Hi,

I've encountered a couple of crashes that seem random to me after playing for a about 15-30 min.
I have not found a way to reproduce these crashes.
This is not much to go on, but I decided to report this anyway.

Attaching crash DMPs as well as vulkaninfo and dxdiag, hoping they help somehow.

Have you verified your game installation since the last beta update?

Is your game modded?

I'm having trouble working out what actually crashed in one of your crashdumps. The other one corresponds to a crash we're aware of, and are hoping we have fixed for the next beta.

The game is vanilla and I've verified the installation on Steam.

Attaching another DMP. I'm again not sure what caused it, as it is too random to me to figure out.
The place in the game does not matter. The game has crashed in different places every time.
So far, the crashes occured every time when in "open" space, pretty far from stations but not far enough for the encounter feature to trigger.
Also, no collision or combat that I noticed took place when any of the crashes occured.

This might also be the same crash you already are aware of again.

Got another unspecified crash in beta 4, similar to the other ones. These crashes still seem random to me. I'm yet to find a way to reproduce this.
This time, I took part in a major battle. In front of the jump gate from Frontiers Edge to Atiya's Misfortune I.
Whether related or not, I cannot tell. When the game crashed earlier, there were no major battles nearby and they also happened in other places than Frontiers Edge.

You're really catching a range of different issues here, none of which appear to be related! Your penultimate crashdump is another rare one that we are aware of, related to character rendering in some obscure situation that we've yet to identify. Your most recent one appears to have happened while working out which player ships need to be drawn on the map, doesn't correspond to any known crashes, and doesn't seem to correspond to a particularly likely crash location (note to self: looks like it might be stack corruption).

Out of interest, are any parts of your system overclocked or overvolted? I'm just wondering, because the two crashdumps so far that don't correspond to known crashes could instead suggest some instability somewhere.

Lucky me!

There are no components that are overclocked or overvolted, though I do plan to undervolt the GPU.
But I have recently swapped out both motherboard, CPU and ram. The CPU was switched from AMD to Intel.
I've not yet made a clean installation of Windows after the upgrade. Might this be the reason for some of the crashes I am encountering?

I'd say it was relatively unlikely, but it's worth a try. We'd certainly be interested in the results, as it would allow us to eliminate a few of your crashes from our investigation if reinstalling worked out.

Hi again,

After a fresh Windows and drivers installation and updating the game to Beta 6, the game still keeps crashing.
System still neither overlcocked or under-/overvolted.
Attaching the newest DMP.

Is there some way for me to identify whether its the same crash I get?
Would not want to overflood this topic with basically the same info/DMP.

This latest one is another peculiar one that doesn't really give much useful information, unfortunately.

Unfortunately there's no easy way for you to check which crash is which, so feel free to upload a few more Beta 6 ones if you have them.

Stumbled upon another crash.

Since the last crash I've updated the Nvidia drivers to the latest version 531.41.
As in previous reports, the cause still eludes me.

The only thing I noticed is that the crashes do seem to happen in game sessions lasting around 30 min to one hour.
There's been no crash earlier than that after loading the save.

Another rather odd one, this time from somewhere inside Windows freeing memory (it's memory associated with a third-party API used by the game, but it's not something that would normally be expected to crash).

There sheer randomness of the crashes you experience might suggest that there's an underlying instability. Things to check would include giving your system memory a thorough check, checking that your processor and memory timings are not too tight, and making sure that your power supply is up to the job and not starting to give unstable power. Note that even if it's only unstable playing X4, that doesn't preclude it being something like this; every game will stress a system differently, and could expose an underlying problem that other games don't.
