Kill pirates: where are they?

I'm on a mission where Jako Brand in Holy Vision System asks to kill a few pirates. But I've only found 2 so far, and I've been trying to find more pirates for a month, but I can't find them. What am I doing wrong?

kills in defend and escort missions that spawn pirates will count towards that goal too. Also, there is a pirate base in The Void Alpha in my game, if that helps.

also be aware that not all pirates will show as red. So if you only look for enemy ships, you may miss some.

you could set the pirates to Enemy in your global command console, this will make all pirates appear as enemies.

otherwise lookout for non enemy pirate ships too

You may have to take one of the random missions to finish this. Sometimes the pirates get wiped by the factions defenders. When you get this, they will actively be engaging other trader NPCs. So its inevitable (as Mr Smith would put it).
