Playership Workshop for the Spacelab:
This new facility is either obtained via quest or purchase. After unlocking it, the player can modify some aspects of the ship they control. For this, resources are required:
- The pandora boxes are replaced with parts for specific ship components, e.g. engine, rudder, weapon, shield, generator, cargo, etc.
- Using the parts, components can be constructed in the workshop. These components are similar to software extensions and can be installed into a selected ship.
- Depending on the type of component, they boost certain stats, e.g. engine component 1 would increase the top speed by a certain percentage (25%). Duplicate components cannot be installed, but some are numbered, e.g. weapon extension 1, weapon extension 2 and weapon extension 3.
- The shield connector component can be used to increase the total shields by one extra unit, e.g. one more 200 MJ shield on a TL Elephant.
- The weapon extension 1 to 3 can be used to install an incompatible weapon type, e.g. plasma burst generators on a M5. This of course is limited by the weapon size. A M3 cannot install XL weapons (although it would be quite funny XD).
- The generator component boosts weapon and shield reload.
- The cargo extension kit increases the ship's cargo hold by a certain percentage (25%).
- The components can be transferred from one ship to another, but only if both ships are docked at the spacelab.
- Only 5 different named components can be installed at any time.
- Finally, the components are only active if the player actually sits in the ship. So it is not possible to outfit several AI controlled ships using this workshop. Hence "playership workshop".
