After playing with 1.3.1 beta patch now since release, I can now say;

1.) Still a long pause with PSGs, although instead of 5 seconds for each fire now its 2 or 3 seconds?

2.) my ship, UT's and my AI ships still crash into as asteroids and stations on occasion.

p.s. how do I buy a trackter beam?

Since this problem has been solved for most other people, I can only imagine that this means you either haven't installed the patch correctly or you have some other sound-related problem on your system such as poor drivers.

The patch has solved my freezes that I was getting. Not had a CTD at all playing the game. No longer have an issue with UT's not having enough energy which is a great bonus. Downside is, as already mentioned in previous posts, my UT's hit 25 and with no hope of further career development decide to end it all and be destroyed by shipyards, or stations. One small tiny point, there is a spelling mistake in the install with the word updating being spelt as updateing (hey I'm in software test so can't let that get by ;-) ).

On another note, is there anyway to change the AI so that UT do not jump straight back into the mess they jumped out of and get destroyed?

Thanks for the patch

Any idea when the patch will become official ? Many of us are not using it because of the lack of a guarentee save game would be compatible.

I started school back so not much time for testing, so just wanted to give what I had when I quit.

1) Used 1.3 save game
2) Save game had already completed 1.3 story line
3) No extra scripts
3.1) No UT
4) No codec issues (checker, attached, all that)
5) Installed 1.3.1 beta
6) freeze after leaving it on seta for short time
7) thought it was due to large amount of xenon in Ore Belt so I killed them
8 ) still freeze

other results:

1) Weapons causing freezes and micro-freezes seemed to be ok.
2) I say "ok" because there are consistent and reiterating micro-freezes now. Time grinds to halt, then keeps going.
3) Seems like there are a lot more ships, not necessarily a bad thing I suppose
4) I didnt check out the UT because I was already freezing.

Didnt start game from scratch, these were 1.3 converted saves - didnt have time. Good luck EGOSOFT!
my wife is the answer to Gabriel's Horn. It's all coming together now.

Have to echo this - I've spent A LONG time testing this game, can't spend any more time on it - but would be happy to test if it didn't mean I loose all progress in the game.

Still experiencing heavy stuttering when entering combat every now and then. Quite possibly due to operating system. Tried MadBoris stuff, it didn't help any sadly ( Big thanks for trying! :D ), no other scripts.

Could be my OS version though. Hope you guys can figure this one out =)

I'm using the 1.3.1 patch but I still get freezes which require to end task though not as often as in the 1.3 version. (with and without scripts doesn'T make a difference)

I installed the 1.3.1 patch and went hunting for about three hours. If any of the pirates I scotched were mounting PSG's I didn't notice. Still laggy in large asteroid fields and some occaisional audio distortion though. And, if I run the graphics setting any higher than their lowest settings, I still have noticable lag.

System:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3000+

RAM: 1GB DDR333

Graphics Card: PNY GeForce 6800GT AGP

Audio: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Value

well, iv been playing with the new patch for a few weeks now, and have made a few reports on my observations. last night I decided to try to replay the plot so i could report on any issues i might discover there. i started on x-treme, and the first thing i did was
Spoiler
Show
head to akeela's beacon to collect teh buster sentinal, and then to loomanckstrat's legacy for the mamba raider.
when i got to loomanckstrat's legacy, i was quite surprised to find the sector to be very laggy. this was presumably because of the asteroids, but i have been in many sectors that have many more asteroids without severe performance hits. this includes ore belt. also, i noticed that the sector was much darker than before. i checked with one of my other save games to be sure it wasnt a change to the gamma settings, and the gamma settings for my old games were the same. so now it is almost impossible to see any objects in loomanckstrats legacy. i decided to try and make it to the
Spoiler
Show
mamba
anyway, and discovered that when i was within about half a second of ramming an asteroid it would suddenly become brightly lit. at first i thought this was probably a squash mine going off, but when i didnt die and the light perisited, i realized that this was happening because of my proximity. i experimented by getting too close and backing off a little to prove this, and it worked.
also, i cant remember if i have reported this before or not, but i am prety sure i have never seen anotehr user report it so here goes: i have s sound issue with the surround sound system. for osem reason, x3 plays quite strong to the side speakers and about 50% weaker to the rear speakers, with little or no sound going to the front speaker. I have spent a great deal of time going through system settings, drivers, codecs, physical connections, and even individualy raising and lowering the volume output to the different speakers. there is enough signal that i can balance the rear if i crank them all teh way up, but i can get no more than a whisper from teh front speakers with the amp and teh front speaker volume all the way up. i believe this to be a problem with x3 because i have tried all these things and found no problems, and because many other games work correctly. turning eax on and off makes no difference either.

Finally came across a pirate Falcon carrying a PSG. There was no change in the apparent frame-rate when the weapon was fired. Thanks!

So far so good. The 1.3.1 patch has fixed all the lock up issues I was having. I was also able to finish the story line. Good job.

Will this patch fix the destroyed-ships-list, so that Xenon ships have Xenon added to them as opposed to just having L, M and N sitting in the list? Looks daft.

Downloaded, currently installing, fingers crossed ... also can anyone recomend a good "codec" pack .. i am currently using "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack v1.42" .. off to test now

<EDIT> SWEET!!!!! what ever you did for the audio aspect PLEASE keep it in the final version of the patch as this fixed my ingame "no computer" voice,

also is there a way to disable the "video sequence" when setting up "purchased" station?

perhaps a "yes or no" or "enable or disable" in the ingame video options list??

again thanks for the audio fix .... back at it!!

Good codec pack for X3 ???
Is there such a thing ;)

One of the main things this patch does is work around the problems of codec packs, so I wouldn't suggest adding any more, except what you need as a multimedia afficianado for video and music playback outside of the game.

i have found a couple model problems that i do not recall reading about before. first is with the mamba raider, and possibly other mambas. when using the video enhancement goggles, the camera clips through the upper part of the nose.

the second is with the broken gates model. for visibility, the easiest is probably the one in brenans triumph. its a little tough to find, but it is there on all of them. to find it, target a broken gate. the approach the targeted nacell. once you are righ tup to it, have a look towards the inside of the gate, and you will discover sort of a ghost of the gate model displaced about one and a half time the width of the nacell towards the center of the broken gate. hope this helps.

unfortunately my only savegame is mid-mission right before you enter the pleasure complex in the space suit, so i cant really test this beta in free-roam mode, but from what i saw, i didnt find any improvement.

Beta Problems not encountered in 1.3:
--there appeared to be a small frame jump exactly every 1 second, almost as if the game is running a bit slowly, and every second it tries to catch up (timer issue?). i used to have this same problem while running America's Army on my old comp, but i got a new one and AA runs just fine on this. the normal 1.3 version and all previous ones did not have this problem.
--indoor pleasure complex turrets cause more damage (supposed to?)
--campaign events show com videos, but no audio

Promlems not fixed in Beta:
--right after destroying the second set of escape pod doors while inside the pleasure complex, there is a 10 second freeze, then it briefly shows your ship warped outside of the complex, still firing, then the cutscene is triggerd, showing the escape pod escaping the complex. at the end of the cutscene, the screen goes black, and the game crashes (windows error message crash, not complete computer freeze).

It fixed my game crashes but it is still a bit slow with most of the dogfights. I have seen that if you set the audio acceleration in dxdiag to "no acceleration" then it runs smooth but you get a few side effects, like the voices would dissapear or be garbage if the dogfight get too intense with a couple of ships( 6 - up)

What are the chances

Post by daver00000 » Mon, 30. Jan 06, 11:02

Would it be possible to know, what the chances are that if you install the Beta patch and then the full patch when released, that the beta save games will be usable with the full patch. I mean no point in me installing the beta if theres a less than 50% chance that the saves will work with the full update ??
