You've not done Wordle for a few days.

He reached the 20-year anniversary of joining the forums a few days ago.
the next time this user account goes quiet for more than a few days you'll know what's happened.
Without any other way of confirming we won't know for sure.

For a second, I thought you said you were waiting for Gadot. I think we all would! Despite being born less than a week apart she looks so much better than I do!

Earlier in the thread, Paul said to assume he'd passed if he hadn't posted for a few days. I hope to God he hasn't, and I'm eulogising prematurely, but silence has never been his style over the 20 years he's been on this forum.

He'll be missed and never forgotten. It's a fitting tribute that he's immortalised within the X games to which he gave so much time.

Paul, I'll be sure to see you on the other side of the jumpgate.
“Man, my poor head is battered,” Ed said.

“That explains its unusual shape,” Styanar said, grinning openly now. “Although it does little to illuminate just why your jowls are so flaccid or why you have quite so many chins.”

“I…” Had she just called him fat? “I am just a different species, that’s all.”

“Well nature sure does have a sense of humour then,” Styanar said. “Shall we go inside? It’d not be a good idea for me to be spotted by others.”

Does anyone on these forums have enough personal knowledge of pjknibbs to know how to look up if he has passed, and if there is an obituary?

I'd been wondering that myself but didn't want to bump this thread unnecessarily by asking.

We do. I've been checking daily.

Unfortunately no one has his family contacts.

I believe his twin brother is called Lee Knibbs and lives in Darlington, but I'm just reluctant to disturb the family. Whether Paul has passed yet or not, I think it safe to assume his posting days on here are behind him.

None of us may have met him, but knowing someone for twenty years virtually sure does bring you pretty close to them.

He lived in Tameside, South-East Manchester, so somewhere in the Denton/Hyde/Ashton area - which is just a few miles from me, and where I often take my pupils (I'm a driving instructor).

I think of him each time I'm in the area, but I don't know where he lived. It would be good to be able to drop a note to his family telling them how much we appreciated him over so many years.

I mentioned admins because if Paul ever entered any address they would have it. Understandably admins may not want to share the private info, but maybe we could pass in a note to be mailed.

Just a thought

I don't have any concrete news, but I visited Paul on 10th September at his home. We chatted about gaming, Elite, X-BTF and all that has happened since. I first met Paul at X-Con at Jodrell Bank in 2001. We both had stints at being Site Admin here, so we had some good stories to share about that. I was there for a few hours.

I did give him personal thanks, from myself but also from the forum users/fans here and also of course from Egosoft themselves.

So he knew how much we all thought of him and I felt it appropriate to do that in person.

I did ask if he would pass my details to his brother (who was due over that day, but was running late), so that he could keep in touch. I don't know if that happened or not. I last tried to contact Paul a month ago, but got no response from calls or text messages.

If I do hear anything, I will post on here.

He almost hit twenty years.

No one remembers me, but I have been on and off the forums, played x3 reunion, terran conflict before i had internet, but i always enjoyed the games. I always liked how these forums were so clean and organised with all the information on display as well as the simplest of statistics in displaying a person's post count giving a sense of how active they were in the virtual community. I haven't seen a number topping this lads', I think CBJ is one, but not sure. Usually i come on here to spam bernd an idea for a DLC, or hounded him about X-Rebirth and then go off for three years.

The absolute dedication of this man to this forum is astonishing. He sounded like the type of person who would try to keep your project alive and motivate you to do more, without any pressure applied. It's amazing to be honest, how one person out of hundreds of thousands of users can uphold such dedication to an online forum. Truly a pillar has been lost upholding the temple with his demise.

I am sorry to confirm that Paul passed away on the 4th November 2022.

(Information from the Director of the company that Paul worked at.)
Really sorry but yes Paul passed away on the 4th November last year after his battle with cancer.

We were with him and his family at this time and he was comfortable when he passed.

He is sorely missed by us all
I also noticed that their chatbot is called "Knibbsy".

Thanks for letting us all know the news. Although it is very sad and our sympathies go out to his family, colleagues and friends, it is better to be certain than left not knowing.

There's no good way to pass, but having your family with you would have been a comfort to both him and to them.

As the thread says, it has been an honour to know him for almost two decades.

And thanks, Redvers, for letting us all know.
