Random Hardware thread
Oct 12, 2022 Nvidia 4090 released. Msrp $1599 usd. Seems to be a big improvement in 4k gaming.
The new 522.25 driver released with the 4090 cards might improve performance in some games on other Nvidia Ampere and Turing cards?

lokkenjp and Rodrog on reddit do benchmark tests for each driver but won't post results until tomorrow probably.

Re: Random Hardware thread
I notice that Nvidia has launched their premium model first this time - or is it perhaps me being not up to date with latest GPU product launch strategies. After all last time I bought hardware was in 2016.
I would be primary interested in seeing how their "medium" and budget models preform and their price point - we also have to keep in mind that AMD is coming with their AMD RDNA 3 series.
That being said - I currently have GTX 1070 and play at 1080p - seeing what games I play - I don't feel I have this strong need for updating...

Re: Random Hardware thread
Yes it's normal for at least nvidia. The two very different 4080 version launch in November. The 4080 16 gb and 12 gb. 4080 12gb might be 30% slower than the 16gb version? People are claiming the 4080 12gb should be called the 4070. 4060 might come out early next year?
4080 12 gb msrp $899 usd Cuda cores 7680 memory Interface width 192 bit
4080 16 gb msrp $1199 usd Cuda cores 9728 memory Interface width 256 bit

4080 12 gb being relaunched as something else?
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/ne ... -unlaunch/
The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it’s not named right. Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing.
So, we’re pressing the “unlaunch” button on the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is amazing and on track to delight gamers everywhere on November 16th.

NVIDIA RTX Remix looks like an interesting way to remaster old video games. In the demo they show Elder Scrolls Morrowind.

Very nice, but I still can't afford to buy one, let alone pay for the electricity that these cards use.

It looks like for Intel graphics cards you can use DXVK (Vulkan-based implementation of D3D9, D3D10 and D3D11) to play older non dx12 games better.

Descript overdub function. AI learns your voice and mimics it. It can learn a voice and make it say anything you type in that voice. Could be useful for a variety on non nefarious things. Like modding, game character voice generation, etc...

Intel integrates the open source dxvk into it's graphics driver making older games play much better.

If you use autohotkey windows 11 has power automate which can do the same things and much more. Web recorder and desktop recorder record your key presses and steps. Can automate a lot of stuff with it besides recording keystrokes. It's like a simplified version of powershell ise. For win 10 you'll have to download it free from the microsoft store.
Nvidia cables burning blamed on end users not inserting the cable all the way or making sure the cable seats ok.
Nvidia 4080 sales are bad. The cards getting a price cut.

Re: Random Hardware thread
Yeah, call me a skeptic but if cable starts burning because it is not inserted all the way, you have ****** product design on your hands. I am not saying it is a new problem which is not present in other applications but the risk mitigation design techniques for this problem is not an uncharted territory.burger1 wrote: ↑Sat, 10. As to 4080 getting a price cut, I wager also AMDs estimated pricing of RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX at $899 and $999 respectively versus currently priced 4080 and 4090 at $1200 and $1500/$1600 USD plays a role too. (All pricing info is of course highly dependent on your local sourcing - I checked the prices for 4080 today and for me it is 1700 USD for an Asus GeForce RTX 4080 TUF). It was priced too high too imho.
We'll see what reviews of 7900s cards say in coming days - some people were commenting on that 7900 XT is priced so close to 7900XTX in order to move 7900XTX easily.

Some new 7900xtx AMD gpus might get recalled possibly due to lack of fluid in the cooling system.

Samsung 980 pro drives (might just be 2 tb drives) might be shipping with bad firmware and might become locked into read only mode. Pretty much just update the firmware.

When you let ChatGPT build you PC, (I just picked 6700XT because there is sale on them where I live - I have no intention of updating my system), these are the suggestion the AI gives:
JUST SO WE ARE CLEAR - DO NOT BUY STUFF BELOW BASED ON THIS POST
JUST SO WE ARE CLEAR - DO NOT BUY STUFF BELOW BASED ON THIS POST
Sure, here are some suggestions for a PSU, motherboard, and CPU to use with the Radeon RX 6700 XT for gaming at 1080p:
PSU:
Corsair CX550M 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
EVGA 600 W1, 80+ WHITE 600W Power Supply
Seasonic S12III 550 SSR-550GB3 550W 80+ Bronze ATX Power Supply
Motherboard:
ASUS Prime B450M-A/CSM Micro ATX Motherboard
ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard
CPU:
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
Intel Core i5-11600K 3.9 GHz 6-Core Processor
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
These components should provide a good balance of performance and affordability for gaming at 1080p with the Radeon RX 6700 XT.
