[MD] Plot - ATF Outpost

ATF Outpost

This plot was originally conceived by Frostynso, and posted on the L3+ Ideas forum.

A while back I wrote the MD code for this plot, and, due to the limitations of L3+ it sat on my computer ever since.

But times change... As it now fairly evident that Egosoft won't be releasing new content for X3TC, I have been in touch with Frostynso (as the original author) and Xenon_Slayer at Egosoft, and both have given permission for me to release this plot publically.


Starting Requirements:

Aldrin Expansion Plot completed, Terran Rank 10 (Hero of Sol), the Plot will start around an hour after reaching the start requirements.


Installation:


There are two versions, one which is true to the original outline, and the 'Capital' version, which adds the ATF Capitals.

I have uploaded two options for each version:
1: ATF_Outpost_CAT_1.1.zip / ATF_Outpost_Capital_Edition_CAT_1.1.zip - extract to the main TC directory, this puts a CAT/DAT pair in the 'mods' folder in the main TC directory - it will then be selectable from the mods section on the start screen.
Or you can renumber them to the next highest pair and move to the main TC directory, and use as a false patch.

2: ATF_Outpost_1.1.zip / ATF_Outpost_Capital_Edition_1.1.zip - simply extract to the main TC directory - where everything should be put in the relevant folders in the TC directory.

gives me a reason to play through again!

Of course it doesn't exist, if you don't have access (in this case L3), any and all topics from L3 that are linked into L1 will give a "Topic doesn't exist". The same would hold true for L5 and higher topics AFAIK.

You only need one of them, the CAT/DAT contains exactly the same files as the plain zip file - just a different way of installing it.

Some people prefer using false patches - easy to remove at a later date if you decide you don't want the mod.
Some prefer the files sitting in folders in the directory - certainly makes life easier whilst developing, but if you have a lot of different ones installed, then decide to remove one, can be tricky to sort out what belongs to a particular mod in folder 'x'.

Always fun to see more missions released.

Now I just got to merge it with some other mission changes. Gotta go through conversations and the mdfiles texts. Hmm, maybe give roger or cycrow the idea to make a add-on to easy check for these changes and merge them...

EDIT - And it will be a while until I can test it as I am the lowest Teladi the Terran ever witnessed. And with Litcubes mission changes it will take awhile until I can reach the necessary rank :P

If you ever need to compare files
Compareit is a good tool for that but you have only 30 days trial.

Or you could use
Winmerge which is open source software.

Thanks Argonaught. I will check out the winmerge one.

Experimenting with reducing the cat/dats in my folder and removing anything that is not needed to make the game run.

Hmm, I am still only a lowly ambassador, or some such. Will I ever reach the rank of Hero of Sol, this is so exciting :lol:

I'll probably get back to you in six months or so Dillpickle, and tell you how I feel about the mission (yeah yeah, I can cheat - I don't wanna :P )

Best plot I've played out of any X game.

I saw a repeat line of text in a coversation, and the equipment at the ATF Outpost can't be purchased, but aside from those small details :thumb_up:

If you could remember which conversation, or part of the plot this repeat line was I'll fix it. Not sure about not being able to purchase equipment at ATF Outpost, will look into it.

Im going through the text file now, and I cant seem to spot it. Maybe it was in the Aldrin Missions?

The issue with not being able to purchase the equipment seems very similar to a buyable jump drive I had at the Saturn Research Station. I had added the ware, but didnt put that there should be at least [1] quantity to purchase.

Couldn't see any lines repeated in the conversations or the text file.

I assume it's the upgrades you can't buy from the Outpost? I will fix when I get a minute...

The normal was written to the plot outlined by Frostynso, which was basically to fill the gap of unobtainable ATF ships i.e.Fighters, Capitals being obtained through boarding.

A request was made somewhere for all ATF ships to be obtainable at the end of the plot - hence the Capital Edition.

Hi, I installed the ATF Outpost some time ago. It's the only mod I use that changes something concerning the plot missions. Now I have all the pre-3.0 plot completed. According to the FAQ (and from previous games I know that's right) the "Balance of power" plot should start now. But it does not.

I think that might be because of the ATF Outpost. This mod includes this file called mdfiles.txt:

All the pre 3.0-plots are enlisted there except the "Balance of power" missions. So I think the problem with the plot not starting might be caused by this mod?!?
If I'm right, is there any chance to get that fixed?
Or if there's another problem concerning my game, does anybody know whether it might be caused by ATF Outpost? Thanks.
