LU - Tweaks for Better Pathfinding?

I somehow forgot how the pathfinding/collision avoidance is still quite bad in LU. Even with a small fleet of M6 set to protect, they will inevitably ram into my ship or my spacesuit. Similarly my M7 ships often ram into opposing ships at the start of the battle.

I have a Pirate Marauder, which is the most nimble of all M7's and yet it's usually him who rams the enemy fleet head-on. Just yesterday I was outside my cockpit repairing my Sirokos and even though I was hugging my ship to avoid being clipped, I watched in terror as my other Sirokos flew straight through my ship and rammed my spacesuit with clinical precision.

Are there any tweaks or tips to avoid that sort of thing? Or failing that is it possible to adjust ship-to-ship collision value so it doesn't result in a double-KO every time?
