Favorite and hated quests?

Post by Hwitvlf »

Wondering which quests people especially like or hate and why.

Liked (most to least):
Destroy incoming Xenon fleet
Pays good and can be challenging

Deliver Ship
Fun to make ships or repair broken ones then resell to others at above market- like owning your own shipyard!

Retrieve abandoned ship
Fun way to get free exotic ships to reverse engineer while still getting paid some!

Deliver resources
Can be very challenging, and also a good way to unload extra resources

Escort trade ships
In FL you can 'challenge' most aggressors to make them target you instead of the convoy, so challenging

Build station
Lets you have a significant effect on the economy while a decent profit, especially if you can make the factories yourself

Scan asteroids
Laid back way to get paid for earning discovery points, and not uncommon to get 2 or 3 missions at the same time for same asteroids!

Sector patrol
Solid random combat which can be challenging sometimes

Scan for valuable cargo
Decent money if you have a fast ship, sometimes find things worth snagging with Cargo Bay Hacker

Hated (most to least):
Buy sector maps
Fly 50km to check a mission and its just another con artists selling info I already know

Scan ships for illegal cargo
Ugh! Almost never find anything- waste of time

Buy asteroid data
I keep accidentally accepting these and they rob you of limited exploration points

Multiple passenger drop
No waypoints and running all over the universe for a low pay

Covert Operation
Follow a slow ship for 30 minutes, then it flies through a xenon sector and pick a fight with a Q...

Defend Station
Not challenging because ships don't target you and bail rate is just too high in FL. I end up tons of bailed fighters which generally breaks the game.

Tour of a Lifetime
Not horrible, just long with low pay and requires a TP. It is a little better if you take 3 or 4 at the same time and can stack pay.

Just listing what I like or dislike.

Destroy incoming Xenon fleet
- Much like any patrol mission, sometimes fun, sometimes meh. Depends on where you take it, and whether or not you gotta deal with local militaries. I apply this to defend station missions too.

Deliver Ship
- I constantly buy used ships. Great way to make a quick credit.

Retrieve abandoned ship
- Great way to spawn a fleet for some free entertainment. Take Argon recovered ship to Paranid space and dock it. Abandon the mission and watch the carnage unfold.

Deliver resources
- Not my cup of tea,

Escort trade ships
- Dislike. I always lose protectees. Or protectors.

Build station
- Best quick buck in the game.

Scan asteroids
- I haven't seen one in ages. Maybe they still exist. lol.... just kidding. Easy peasy bucket of credits. But a bit boring.

Sector patrol
- One of my favorite activities.

Scan for valuable cargo
- Only did this a few times. Undecided.

Buy sector maps
- Unnecessary thing.

Scan ships for illegal cargo
- Agreed, waste of time.

Buy asteroid data
- Rarely use these. They seem useless, and I prefer flying and scanning myself.

Multiple passenger drop
- No interest in this, those a mod which introduced the ability to run a passenger transport service, might be fun. Meaning more like running a modern day airline business.

Covert Operation
- Preachin to the choir there...... lol.... reminds me of those GTA follow the person missions. (Did I just say that for real?)

Defend Station
- Oh I'll break your game. Lolzz, just kidding. Oh c'mon man I love these. Best time to board caps too. Boarding an assassination target also counts as completion.

Tour of a Lifetime
- I avoid these too. Boring, dock at a station, wait 10 minutes no seta for passengers to return. Hard pass.

You missed a few.  :P

Military Transport / Passenger Transport
- Best quick credit / buck in the game in my humble opinion. Go to mission for making money.

Taxi
- Excellent quick credit, and agent acquisition. Some though are misleading, telling you they need a fast ship. But reality is if an agent is offered, always needs TP. Still, all very doable.

Go, retrieve and bring back cargo
- Worst mission in game. Some actually cannot be done without a JB.

Your list sounds similar to mine with a focus on combat. I'm trying a non-combat playthrough this time and it changes game play quite a bit.

I wonder if the "Go, retrieve and bring back cargo" missions factor in the playership speed. I'm flying a supertuned (400+ Ms) Geochen Miner and they all seem to be 3 or 4 minute. I haven't found one I couldn't complete yet with the turbo booster, but still narrow margins. One tip people might not know: if you tell your autopilot to jump and dock at a station (rather than jump to gate), then 'com' a station or ship, it will jump immediately without the count. Helps shave some time. :P

I don't think it does take that into account. I'm using a supertuned Maru with a Turbo Boost. I know the combat ones take into account what your in when it displays the difficulty though. I've seen it display Very Hard, then switch to Normal or Easy on some.

These are the mission types I most look forward to

Deliver Ship
Great mission type if you're holding a few jump beacons on your ship. Put them on the ship requested, the ship docks, you turn it over, get rewarded, the ship undocks, you transfer or eject the beacons before the ship jumps out of the game. Works with any kind of cargo too, but JBs are the most value dense in the game.

Defend Station and Assassinate
I take combat missions just to capture cap ships. So I take these two over the other combat missions due to being able to better control the location of the engagement. As preparation for these missions, I have nearly every gate in the universe covered by Adv. Sats.

VIP Transport
These and Defend Station are the ones that offer Agents when you are not at max complement. Hint, you can put these missions 'on hold' indefinitely by docking to the station in a non-TP before accepting the mission. This gives you more time to bring the TP over without losing the mission.

Deliver resources
If you have a complex producing a surplus of the desired item, an Ozias, a TS and a JB on your ship, it's worth it to make extra income on the surplus. These missions pay you more than the max price of the item requested.

Stolen or Abandoned Ship
Conditional. I take boardable targets for these missions. The abandoned ones are practically free training for your marines.
