Download and unpacking worked a charm.connary wrote:I hope this is the good one.
Nonetheless I packed it to 7zip and uploaded it to AfterDomination Ftp (about 3/4 times as fast DL speed) so you can have a mirror should people have trouble with the other.
Immersive Backgrounds BETA1.7z (37.2MB)
You can get 7zip from here -> http://www.7-zip.org/ its free and packs/unpacks most known formats.

Yay! Finally I can start a new game! Haven't played for weeks since I got killed in my last DiD game, been waiting for this mod!
One question though: Can I install it as a fake patch?

Well, you are a beta tester, lol, test the mod like a fake patch and share your experience. I dont know well this game engine and how it prioritizes the add ons.e1team wrote:Yay! My first doubt is if the engine prioritizes the x.universe and the Tbackgrounds on the mod or the ones into the /maps, /types game folders.
Thanks Ketraar, added the link in the first post.
Please, to all, start to share your thoughts to get a final better version and dont forget to read the readme doc or the galaxy will implode.

So far so good. I would even dare to say: so far so great! Installed as a fake patch. Works. I went through numerous sectors and everything looks fantastic. Great job there!

Yes it could be done using MD, but it would take huge amount of coding.Sim108 wrote:can it be done like that, or am i just out of my mind
The command for it is <alter_sector x="" y="" background="{BG ID here}"/>
Alternativly, one could change the existing BG with these in TBackgrounds, that would not require a new start. And/or name the dds files as existing ones.

Ketraar
PS.: Thinking of it, if one created a map file with only the new BG Ids then it also could work using the <load_map/> command.

First, Thank you connary ! for such an awesome background mod ~
Here's my experience.
I personally love uranus, i did felt like i was floating in soup.
The double resolution stars are way sharper. very good.
However it felt weird when i'm in BLUE DISTANCE SECTORS, the one with Hydrogen clouds.
The Hydrogen clouds look very very 'dense'. It surrounds you like when you're being placed in the middle of an 'empty' sphere. (The inner surface of the sphere being the background of H clouds)
Does that make sense? o.O
It just feels empty. like I'm in a huge bubble in quality soup. lol..
2 separate suggestions.
1. maybe denser nebulae in those sectors? to balance out the atmosphere and the background. Don't change the background, I'm in love with it.
or
2. perhaps you wanted to make it feel like you're at the outskirts of the main hydrogen cloud. maybe we could have two kinds of hydrogen cloud sectors, one that simulates the outskirts and another to simulate you being in them? of course the one in them would require denser nebulae just like the first suggestion.
And Overall it felt very real.
oddly, I got an additional 4 FPS using this mod, i don't know why. lol.
when compared to using the original backgrounds in dense asteroid sectors.

About the blue distance sectors i think you are right. We are surrounded by this gas formations then we need to get the sensation that we are inside this dense atmosphere and not in a clean bubble. Im also think that a mid-low floating vapors (nebulae) with the same colour scheme will do the work to immerse us in this panorama.
I will play with this sector.

thanks for the reply to my previous post.
here's my second response to my experience using this mod..
I have noticed stations are placed much closer now which really brings in the realism. (plus point)
to add on to that, during dog fight situations i can't help but notice how many times i end up super close to a station, and wow, it's like Starwars or any space fantasy movies where you fly through stations chasing enemies. COOL . (double plus)
and... connary,
did you purposely place humongous asteroids in between gates and stations in sectors where it's fogged with nebulae ?
when i say humongous, it's the size of terran stations.. really big.
i almost crashed into one at barely 4km away... at 400m/s on 10x SETA... I scrambled for my arrow keys.. lol.
I mean it ain't bad at all.. it surprised me, have to keep an eye on the road more often now especially on SETA.
I think your mod not only mods the backgrounds but also the feel of the game, in addition to 'soup'.

Something is messy with your current gameplay or possibly the new environment changes your perception of distances.urbanfreak wrote:thanks for the reply to my previous post.

This mod dont touch any station, asteroid, or floating structure. It only modifies position of suns and planets, also changes sector luminosity and density of gas vapors (nebulae).
If the mod had the ability to change your relation and perception with the game space creating this new experiences then Bingo¡¡ the mod works in some way.
