I'd say that generally XRM:AP is better, however when there are battles it's a lot worse than my older XRM:TC game with MBRR.greypanther wrote:@ Scoob: in your experience does XRM + AP, run smother/better than XRM + TC?
In XRM:TC I did use MBRR to make races war on each other, so Argon vs. Paranid, Boron vs. Split and I turned up the values so there were some big fights going on. However XRM:AP's RRF controlled fights are on an even larger scale.
If XRM:AP has a weakness it's those big fights really bogging things down. However I really like the big fights - it wouldn't be a war without them. Possibly a slight toning-down would help overall. I.e. both the Argon and Terran fleets strike at ONE sector at a time in force - I'll often see the main fleets engaged in say Omnicron Lyrae, but there will still be other sizable battles going on in the likes of McCallum Relay, Farpoint Relay, Treasure Chest, Jupiter at the same time.
Really though, it's only when I'm in sector with a large fight going on that I have issues. I don't even have to be able to see the fight - i.e. I've entered via the "wrong" gate in a large sector - to get the FPS drop.
Note: I do run a handful of other scripts but, other than MARS, I don't think any of them are considered even remotely heavy.
Scoob.

=) Don't forget about this. If this is a simple fix that im overlooking go easy on me.

Well the stations are the same as vanilla. I definitely think RAM is the issue. Its just XRM is pushing you closer to the edge than vanilla.Gungy wrote:Well it's freshly installed, lol and its worse ffs. but i have noticed the battles i been in are fine. It's the bloody stations, yeah i did just say that. whenever i have a station on screen my FPS drops alot.
so i give up, ill go back to vanilla. not like i can turn stations off lol.
Have you tried lowering your texture quality to medium? Ive found this makes a huge difference in low memory systems.

Anyone have any ideas? looking for somthing different from the standard terran / atf admiral laying waist to everyone lol + if possible lay down some rules to follow

I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

you can buy ram these days for the same as the price of a game (in the uk at least) just upgrade anyway, you may want it for Rebirthpaulwheeler wrote:Well the stations are the same as vanilla. What ship? The camera position is set by the ships scene file. Maybe they moved it forward in AP - XRMs scene files are generally based on the TC ones. Generally the camera position is set to align with where the model's cockpit position is, that tends to determine if any of the model can be seen.TOSIEK wrote:TOSIEK wrote:I just started out on X3 again after a long break, downloaded albion and realized that the ship nose was gone from when I remembered playing which is great. I know for sure that at least some of the Mercury variants, both in XRM and vanilla, have the player's view/cockpit on the top at the back, when the model clearly suggests it should be built in to the front, like a truck cab.paulwheeler wrote:What ship? EmperorJon wrote:This is true for vanilla aswell though. the mercurys look like they have frontal cockpits but Ego seem to place the cameras from the top of the engine sections. I think its more to do with interesting variation between mercury classes rather than realism, its not realy an issue with a freighter.paulwheeler wrote:What ship? Low memory systems, pah. I have to run it on low with 8gig of RAM because docking at stations lowers my FPS to a measly 10... Only internal docks though. But I like to dock manually always so I have to lolpaulwheeler wrote:Well the stations are the same as vanilla. I definitely think RAM is the issue. Its only the new EQ docks, happened in Vanilla as well. So no, its nothing to do with XRM, its just my graphics card being shit. Seriously, its terrible. I can run BF3 on High, and its 70fps, but it won't load the gun in my hands unless its on medium lolpaulwheeler wrote:Well theres no way the xrm is causing that. It makes no changes to docks whatsoever. I fail to see how anything but a broken installation could cause something like that.

Strange that people are getting performance issues. My system is pretty modest.
A Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66MHz, 4 GB RAM, Geforce GTX 260. Windows 7 64-Bit
I only really notice framerate drops in certain sectors. But they are the same sectors that always had dodgy performance in TC. Home of Light and a couple others. Never got bad enough to make the game anywhere near unplayable though. And I'm using the cockpit pack and background pack to boot.
No idea what is causing it to happen for others. Also...all my fights have been very smooth.

you can have the most amazing GPU in the world but if the guy who made the model hasnt optimised it properly your screwed. I doubt this is a XRM problem also TBH. Its worth bringing up but i doubt its XRM. Windows has a funny way of dealing with ram sometimes. For example you mention areas were you dock. these should be very low impact on the system as there is less to render. saying that recently when i was rendering a 3d scene for a tv ad the parts of the sequnece which were just plain and not much going on filled up the full 8 gig of the ram on my laptop but when it got to the complicted part of the sequence it was only using 2 - 3 gb or ram. this is inherent of windows (apparently) and one of the reasons macs are in a way superior and more reliable for media production. i would still go pc every time though lol slightly of topic but thats what ive noticed. p.s yes there are no scientific facts to support my argument in my post but its an anomoly i have experienced.

you forget that there is a formula between people who spend more on their systems and the performance they expect / getSlashman wrote:Strange that people are getting performance issues. My system is pretty modest.

Just to add, I have no bad sectors FPS-wise on my gamer - it's purely when there's a large battle going on...and I mean LARGE Terran vs. Argon or Xenon Invasion type fights.
I wonder if the new, increased draw distance in AP can have an impact too. I just put it down to "High" from "Very High" on my Q6700 PC and things seemed much improved.

OK so it may well be my CPU that is letting me down here. after several tests etc im thinking it. now i would still like to play the mod, and im willing to try alot of crazy stuff to do so. so that leads me to my question.
could you please explain how i reduce the load on my cpu from the scripts you have in the mod? i realise this would probably be achieved by increasing the wait time for one. however i really dont have a clue where to start, but im willing to learn and do the leg work myself.
im sorry if this is a tall order but i have searched for any relevant terms i could think of with regards to this but came up blank. so even if its just a link to where you learned this kind of stuff id appreciate it.
