Mod MSP is fully compatible with the XRM.
Ship Mercury is not available at the shipyard in Argon Prime. You can buy it in civilian shipyards (Antigone Memorial, Red Light).

Why?
Because both possess the largest number of ships M6, the number of turrets. And these are very useful for defense against missiles and fighters.
While the Centaur Sentinel does have a nice number of turrets, it's weapon recharge rate is terrible for a 24 gun ship. Anyone using it will find out quickly that they can't fire for too long before running out of power. The Vidar Sentinel has a better recharge rate, though not certain if it's enough to keep all 24 guns going for long...

In either case, I'd still go for a Hyperion. Can dock 2 fighters instead of just one, has better speed than either of the other 2, and also has plenty of turrets. In the right hands (nearly anyone's...) the Hyperion is quite deadly.

Just spotted a little typo whilst browsing ships in the encyclopedia - in the description of the Quasar, it says it was first built in the shipyards of "Omycron Lyrae".

For the record, I didn't manage to decide what to upgrade to, too many choices distracting me. 8)

Yea, those "Privateers" can be a real PITA. Aside from tips you´ve got for traders, there is nothing you can do to stop them, unless you position your main traiding fleets within an Argon territory; and since Argons don´t really like Paranids, and vice versa, you should be able to defeat them there without major problems for your reputation ( same goes for Split/Boron ).
I don´t know what kind of character you´re playing in your game, but if your avatar matches it, you could simply accept the rep/assets loss, while still making profit through boarding those Privateers, and selling them afterwards ( a Paranid Frigate will nett you a round summ of 30-40 millions, while even a couple of traders won´t cost you more then 10 m. ;) ). And the reputation, well, appologise to the local police, if you must, and do some vh missions, and you´ll be fine again.

Concerning Plots, do they have the same requirements as in the original game ? (AP) Especially Shady Business.

And I still have the other problem :
A small problem I encounter : I have received the same mission (Corporation Troubles) twice. Can it be related to XRM ?

Hi Paul - a question.
First the praise! Thanks for an absorbing MOD, I have been using it for several 'incarnations' over the last year or so.
When I install an update I make a fresh copy of the X3 folder and add the files to it manually.

Recently I started using "Life". I noticed a problem which has been solved but at the same time noticed that when selecting upgrade from a Shipyard the installed Extensions of some of my ships had the 'curley bracket' problem - specifically "{1000,30000} {17,81112}".
I have searched the forums and found your reply to AnthonyP's post "[AP] [need help] readtext0-250 in AL settings menu".

No Steam Problem.

Hi,

Obviously I am doing something wrong but when I add the no steam exe into my TC root directory for use with XRM it always start AP. Sad

So I get AP and not XRM.

What have I done wrong this time. Confused

As far as I can see my steam version of TC has the addon folder but not AP as far as I can tell but perhaps it does have?

Further to the above, I have only added the AP files/scripts etc.
One mistake I had made was to try and have both AP and TC 'XRM-enabled' but then noted your comment that AP uses some of the standard TC scripts so both cannot be changed at the same time.
However XRM has only be added to AP now - problems as above.

Hi Yacek,

I have been playing AP so I suppose the installation automatically includes the AP files. :?

Perhaps I should attempt to re-download the Steam X3 files then add the bonus pack and try that.

that's normal....

readtext error is a bug with x3, and explorers are supposed to have better scanner. you'll notice that other variants of disco don't have military explorer.
Split say NEED MORE FIREPOWER!!

The game plays well, I was just concerned this was a new error I had introduced. It's the sort of thing that is easy to miss so when you see it you do not know how long it has been there!!
Anyway I shall return to the fray .....

You know..

..It would be nice if there was a setting to tweak just HOW hostile the universe is.

It gets a bit old to have pirate raiding parties teleport into core sectors. They get wiped out summarily but too bad if you happen to have any assets presents. Pirates think they're yummy.

Thats because the no steam exe is for AP. There isnt one for TC. Youll have to remove the xrm (and all other mods) from tc and install it in AP.

The addon folder is AP.

Not entirely true.
To the Steam version of TC do NoSteam TC version, download and install the patch 3.2 for TC. It contains X3TC.exe file in the DVD version.

XRM just requires you to think of new strategies to achieve the same results you used to get in vanilla (using patrols or escorts, letting the NPC's take the risks of transporting goods to/from your factories...etc) instead of doing the same old 'tried and true' strategies.

If you don't mind a little work you could install X3 Editor 2 and edit the jobs.txt file to lengthen the re-spawn timers for the Pirates, Xenon, or Kh'aak (never could remember how to spell that).

Doubling the timers makes a noticeable difference. For my game I just increased the timers for the major Xenon invasions, it's still a dangerous universe, it's just not the usual nearly non-stop combat oriented game as 'vanilla' XRM and it's a little easier to setup a trading empire.

On topic on dumb XRM questions.

Is the ONLY way to board to own an M7 which can equip the boarding pod? In other words, there's no way to take over an M6 unless you have an M7?

WRT editing - Yes, possible. Smart, even. I'm just asking turning this into a mainstream supported option.

Also access to some of the ware costs would be nice. 3 mill for mk3 trader that's going to be blown out of the sky unless you also threw in 2 mill for the warp engine AND have a pilot with enough XP to use it.

Difficulty is fine, people. Adjustable difficulty is just .. dreamy.

After quite a bit of experimentation on the subject of combat challenge (while developing my Combat Tricks OBS Enhancement), I have come to the same conclusion, Barleyman. There is such a wide variety of player styles, skills, and equipment, that it is almost impossible to scale difficulty to fit all possible play styles.

That is why most games have a "Combat Difficulty" setting.

Any idea if the cargo bay shielding works?

I'm also getting tired of the crashing in the middle of combat...most recently was taking on a J's entire complement of fighters in my Skiron...slowly beating them down, then the game crashes. I've had this issue other times when I'm in combat with multiple ships...wonder if it's a MARS issue...

Edit: Is the Aran still findable with the UFJD, or has it been removed from those sectors?

TC Plots into AP and MARS were causes of crashes for me (maybe one, or the other). Now it's running fine without a single crash in more than 10 hours of game (real time).

AFAIK, XRM has never caused any crash.

Given that the crashes occurred during non-plot related combat and MARS was in use on my ship, I'm thinking it's a MARS issue...or maybe my computer just can't handle it (combat in general), I don't get particularly high FPS anyway...wish the game engine could take advantage of multi-core processors and a few gigs of RAM...

I've been in Argon Sector M148 to grab Marines, and when the Terrans show up with more than just a few fighters, it becomes a lagfest... :(
