Is it out of early access because it's actually finished, though, or is it following the Towns route of "We can't be bothered to do any more development on this, we're going to release it anyway"?

Yes. Sort of..

A release patch heralded the 1.0 version, yesterday. I haven't been following up the game's history very attentively, but I've watched many hours of "Let's Play" vids of various versions. The thing is, this game achieved a great deal of depth very early in the Beta stage. Tweaks, hammering out bugs, adding small additional features and the like are what seems to have occupied the dev's time since then.

There were some complaints on the Steam forums, but they seem to mostly be complaints about certain features that may have been desired/worked on, but may not have been implemented. However, from everything I've seen through several different versions of let's play vids, there's nothing "missing" in the sort of gameplay I'd expect from this sort of game, so I'm not sure what people would be complaining about. Multiplayer, maybe? (There is no MP.)

The dev provided all the api/stuffs for modders and the like and, supposedly, there's not really anything that they can't access. I think that was his way of "adding" things that players wanted - Let the modders do it.

I was standoffish, for awhile, but the more I saw of the game, the more convinced I was that it was a viable gameplay alternative for Dwarf Fortress. It's not the same, of course, and DF is far deeper. But, DF is also a hard nut to crack into and doesn't have a traditional layout/UI that is comfortable, even in the best of times.

Towns was orphaned in a relatively unfinished state, at least according to most people. Some people have said Towns isn't that bad, but I choose to stay away from it. (I'd be more apt to choose Hearthstone when it gets a bit more development under its wing.)

I don't think there's anything similar between Gnomoria's release state and that of Towns. In fact, and I do try to follow the news on all the popular Indie circuit titles, Gnomoria probably has a better release state than most popular indie titles.

In case you're interested in looking into this further, an excellent tutorial series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfJPDYXJUBo (Fairly recent, but not the "release" version.)

A "Let's Play" series that's pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VETsF9u ... Bdhv3Y_WSK

Another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXtkjsAkIMc

A last one that's a Let's Play, but he does a good job of explaining things. And, he's not a great player, so you get to see some mistakes that the above players don't normally make. :)

IMO, Gnormoria has a bunch of fiddly bits and supply-chain/resource goodies as well as all sorts of different "orders/tasks" you can prioritize for your Gnomes that it brings that sort of X3TC vibe that I like in games like this. It's not ordering fleets around and setting up supply chain basics and complexes, but it has some of the same feel in spots.

They need to give it a middle finger, so it can display displeasure to the chap who keeps moving the box and shoving it about.

You'd think one of those engineers would have put in a simple mini-g sensor and hooked it up to an i-pod and speakers so the poor little thing could complain every time someone shoved it.

That's purely because of the value of that land--what's actually standing on it is largely irrelevant, they'll put up an office block and charge huge rents for any company occupying it.

They appear to have nothing better to do.

What a bunch of idiots, with all the things wrong in the world and America, the best thing they could come up with to campaign against is the use of the term master, and use the excuse of slavery for doing so. It has or even had anything to do with slavery, and that is pretty easy to prove as when it would have been introduced there would not have been anyone with a darker skin colour even at school at the time, let alone in University. What a total waste of time. As already mentioned, campaigning against Trump would be a better idea, as he would probably bring back slavery as in his eyes it would make America great again and he could make some dollars from it.

This really deserves its own thread, but, for now, with little information to go on, I'll post it here:

MASTER OF ORION IS IN EARLY ACCESS!!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/298050/

Quill18 takes a look (Several Let's Play vids of it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3-YLyZBkjs

The MoO IP was bought by Wargaming.net (World of Tanks) during the Atari sell-off, and is being developed by NGD studios (Mostly Mobile Game dev).

So far, reaction is positive, but the game is still deep in Beta. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

As usual, I will offer no excitement until the game is actually released. Early Access can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. I have yet to purchase an Early Access game. (I have come close, though.)

But, I will be watching this new incarnation of MoO. It's just loaded with too much controversy and nostalgia not to. :)

How bloody stupid can a person be?
Two brothers summoned back to court for mocking a judge on Facebook after she decided not to send them to prison for dealing drugs have been jailed for two years.

Forty minutes after Daniel Sledden, 27, received a suspended jail term from judge Beverley Lunt, he posted online: “Cannot believe my luck 2 year suspended sentance beats the 3 year jail yes pal! Beverly Lunt go suck my dick.”

Soon afterwards, his brother Samuel, 22, wrote: “What a day it’s been Burnley crown court! Up ur arse aha nice 2 year suspended.”

The defendants, from Accrington, Lancashire, were recalled for a sentence review when the remarks were brought to the attention of the judge, after she had previously heard their expressions of remorse for offending.

Gosh didn't know he was still alive:
George Kennedy, actor in many many movies, is dead.

Dammit the year is only two month old and so many artists are dead.

Frank Kelly of Father Ted fame died a couple of days ago as well. Not a good year for actors so far.
