This 800 pages thread is so massive im so overwhelmed ...stopped playing a while ago and now im all noob again with everything.
It would be great if someone could compile a complete set of this awesome conversion INCLUDING all recommend plugins /must have addons for use with Plugin Manager on the basis of a fresh installled X3TC (not albion) , in my case STEAM version.
I already have spent 2 hours just reading and probably already screwed up everything without even noticing. My head hurts Oo
At least that is was drove me away from X3 last time ...i had a massive game going and some inconsitency slowly screwed up my whole game so that it was not possible to revert to old save game ...i had to go back so far that it was useless. A fleet of 100 ships, a bunch of capitals i owned, nvidum systems ...all the easter eggs weapons and billions of cash....all gone ...weeks and weeks of gameplay
destroyed. I was so pissed off i never touched the game again....for 2 years now.
Pls help me out with a quick start into this oh so massive game i think a lot of people would be thankful if they just
had a good kickstart with all the nifty stuff included in one package. (and with all the BEST eyecandy of course !!)

If your already on steam i would highly recommend going and purchasing AP becuase XRM AP is worth paying for the whole AP game in my opinion. There are some Substantial differences between the vanilla and XRM AP but they are not realy an issue. the only difference being one of the plots is dissabled in XRM AP but it is replaced with the XRM war system. May be worth doing a quick AP vanilla game just to do the plots and then go modded.
Basicly XRM whihc ever game you use it with adds a ton of stuff and you seriously wont need that many extra mods on top of it. There is a comprehensive list on the first page of the thread listing all the mod recommendations to go with XRM. Other than those the only real features added by mods that XRM doesnt have is stuff like NPC bailing and COmplex cleaners etc.

I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

I'm afraid I've uninstalled XRM due to it having a significant detrimental effect on my framerate. I can run vanilla + bonus pack AP at full graphics settings and get smooth flight at 10x SETA, with XRM I was getting it horribly jerky and slow at 6-7x SETA with AA etc. off, medium texture/shaders, medium distance, etc.
Just a warning, as it were... I don't seem to be the only one experiencing this and I can't work out what's wrong.

If it is happening in busy sectors it is most likely the non optimised ships which isnt specificly Pauls fault. Put it this way having one of the new M1/M2's that havnt been optimised in sector has the same resource usage as 400 nova's or something silly ike that. with the increased draw distance also this makes it worse.
One questiion do you have XRM backgrounds installed as i believe that pack also increased draw sistance and extends the distance at which statuons and detail can be seen.

I did, good point, but even in seemingly empty sectors I would take a large framerate hit, and Kha'ak beam weapons were causing it freeze up horribly. I actually got an OOM error in a Kha'ak invasion.
I wasn't blaming anyone for anything anyway, don't worry, I was simply explaining that I have an issue. Feedback. Y'know.

The XRM simply does a lot more than vanilla AP.
More ships, more effects, more action.
It is what it is - you dont get something for nothing.
People complaining of performance issues really are in the minority. Personally i am completely happy with the XRMs performance.
I am not going to start cutting things out to appease the minority.
Ship trails are in because i like ship trails. Big battles are in because i like big battles. etc. etc. etc.
It was never my intention to create a mod with better performance than vanilla.
It was my intention to create a mod that I wanted (and do when i get the time) to play.

Thats the issue - it has nothing to do with optimisation. Everything is as optimised as it can be.
All i can do is start cutting things out, which compromises the mod i want to make.
Im sure youd get a big performance increase if i cut out all the ship trails, removed all beam weapon effects, reduced ship numbers, removed Expnobodys ships etc.
But then i might as well go play vanilla...

Well I'm getting mixed answers and reaction here, so don't take what I'm saying too harshly if you know it to be false.dougeye wrote:If it is happening in busy sectors it is most likely the non optimised ships which isnt specificly Pauls fault. QUESTION:
Paranid M2+ and Boron Hammerhead light carrier. Where do they spawn? I cant remember seeing one "live" as of yet.
EDIT:
Found the M2+ by accident
ISSUE:
Betty seems to have lost its ability to say named command-ships. Not all, "Lasting Vengeance" she can say but not all others
Worked fine before...

I am sure some of those with performance issues are running high end processors... - My system is a dual core 2.4mhz, and performance is great, even at the highest settings- The only difference I note, with the highest settings, is it takes a few seconds longer when going to a new sector. It does make me feel that either peoples expectations of performance are far higher than mine[1], or there is something they can be doing to optimise their system for AP XRM.
[1] If is seems to play like a movie, without stuttering, then I am happy to call the performance acceptable.- I do get microstutters, on occasion, when a capital ship jumps into a sector,

I cannot optimise Expnobody's ships. My only option is to remove them.EmperorJon wrote:paulwheeler wrote:Thats the issue - it has nothing to do with optimisation. Typo, the "Aldran Adventurer" and "Species: Aldran" on the Aldrin Adventurer start needs correcting (probably an EGO typo).
M.
Note it's NOT A TYPO. Aldrin is the name of the sector, whereas an inhabitant of Aldrin is an Aldran.

Whoops... good job me.EmperorJon wrote:Oh, a was reading back quite a way and read this.

@Paul
Just a suggestion... could you put some actual goner owned defences in Lightseeker to prevent Aran farming?
Cheers,
M.

Basically, even a Bugatti Veyron can't go very fast if it's in a ditch.nankura wrote:This is extremely correct.
Actually, none of those reasons are why. We never wanted a sub-forum, so it was never an agenda.Jack08 wrote:Two reasons; fairness and the egosoft board cant support sub forums
Paul toyed with the idea of having an XRM dedicated forum off-site, but we decided it would alienate too many XRM users who weren't generally active parts of the community.
(Plus the XRM thread would continue here regardless, so then we'd have two places to monitor, doubling the time spent putting out fires).
800 pages might seem a beast, but I don't think it's actually hindered anyone.
I have yet to see people telling other people to read previous pages, or to stop asking the same questions, or anything like that.
The Old Guard of XRM know the score here, and they're all cool people who are happy to help - within reason.
If the answer is in the FAQ and someone decides that their time was too valuable to spend reading that FAQ, then that person is fair game for fangorious devourment. :3

I had some serious fps issues. And through one means or another I've made the mod playable. Ok I can't seta above 5 because the trails kill the fps, I can live with that. What was getting me was the average of 23 fps in non combat light population systems whig dropped to single figures in heavy. That's all done now though, I'm gettin 60 in empty, 40'ish in busy and 20+ in combat.
Suppose the point I'm making is even though I was getting 60 consistently in vanilla, and other games I own, run like a dream. When it came down to it, it was my pc bottlenecking. Up side of this is vanilla now runs even smother I used to see drops in seta x10 to low teens now it sits at 30+.
Don't get wrong I still think there could be some improvement made on the side of the mod. What I don't know exactly, only thoughts could be slight reduction in spawns. Or removal of models suspected of hogging resources. But for now I can't complain about fps as it really was my side for the most part.
