I've read through the last few pages and I couldn't find anything about this topic. My apologies if I've missed something.
I'm about to restart my X3 Let's Play on Youtube.
I cancelled the last one after an update for XRM and other mods made my savegames incompatible.
I haven't had the time or will to start a new one since then.
This time around, I'm going to emphasize trading. This is why I am interested in doing it with Albion Prelude. I've never played it, though.
From what I read, though, is that a lot of the plots are disabled in AP. Is this still true? Is there no way to set up the standard war instead of the mod's war?
I really like what XRM does. So now I'm doubting wether to start my LP in AP or TC.

The main AP plot is disabled. However, the PHQ and Hub plots are playable.
Reactivating the vanilla war and main AP plot is not really an option. It would need quite a few changes to the main universe map as well as the removal of quite a few XRM jobs and alterations to the gamestarts. To get the main plot to work with the XRM without making these changes would involve a substantial rewrite of the missions.
I do hope that the XRM added "war" provides at least some compensation for losing the main plot.

Most unfortunate, but very well. I guess I'll have to do without it, then.paulwheeler wrote:Reactivating the vanilla war and main AP plot is not really an option. Are those two the only plot lines available in AP with XRM installed?paulwheeler wrote:The main AP plot is disabled. However, the PHQ and Hub plots are playable.
I hope so, too! Only one way to find out.paulwheeler wrote:I do hope that the XRM added "war" provides at least some compensation for losing the main plot.
I hope the war won't interfere with my start as a thriving merchant, though.
It takes a while before you reach that point where losses in ships and factories only weigh in time to rebuild, instead of both that and a lot of hard earned creditsssss!

Well personally what I'd do in your situation, is build a lasertower complex first, that way you can easilly protect your traders and factories. So far, by doing this, I've lost 14 traders and 0 factories, not bad considering I now have over 50 traders and 40 factories.Skite wrote:Most unfortunate, but very well. Also, yes those are the only two working plots in AP, but why you need plots is beyond me.

@Skite: If you stay away from war sectors (if you are argon or terran) i think you don't have to be afraid of the war thing... the problem will be the Khaak, Xenon, Pirates and Privateers from enemy races
.
Be ready to buy a lot of Laser towers to put near your stations or some fleets for patrolling.
I don't know if all the scripts from the AP bonus pack are compatible with XRM, but if so, you can find decent trading upgrades there like the MK3 black list, and comodities manager to name some.
On other topic:
Paul can you put some of the heavy corvettes to sell in more shipyards? i mean... i had to search for a Heavy dragon in all the freaking map to see what shipyard sells it, and it seems that only 1 does (not counting the prototype).... it is really annoying if you work hard to get the cash to buy it then realize that no shipyard in all the near sectors have it and have to go explore other (some enemy) sectors to keep looking in your jumpdriveless M3 (i hate missile frigates by the way).
That way one think that maybe you forgot to put it in the list... it's not like the heavy corvettes are the ultimate ships that has to be hidden in order to balance the game right?. The thing that pains me is that it makes me buy another ship that i don't wan't because the ship i want is reeeeally far away (at that time i didn't know how far), and not in the list of the other 3 identical shipyards in the Split connected sectors (even if all the other M6, M7, M1 and M2 were there).
I really fail to see why the heavy corvettes are so rare to find, can you tell me?.

The only thing i miss from that is not actually the Argon plot itself, but the Random terran guy that appears when you choose to be terran and the moment he shouts "...GET TO IT" LOL...paulwheeler wrote:I do hope that the XRM added "war" provides at least some compensation for losing the main plot.
And talking about "plot", i still don't know why they blew up the Torus... WHY???...

Losing the main plot? What plotpaulwheeler wrote:I do hope that the XRM added "war" provides at least some compensation for losing the main plot.

Cos it was probably the single most implausible feature of the game and I am so glad it happened!!! To make a station that surrounds a planet = sitting duck for attack...Eriodas wrote:And talking about "plot", i still don't know why they blew up the Torus... WHY???...
With the possible exception of the original Valhalla model...

want the real reason? it's quite simple if you read the encyclopedia, the base plot for the AP war is in there. http://www.egosoft.com/download/superbox/bonus_en.php second download thereEriodas wrote:They still needed resources, manpower and planning to blow up a really big stupid thing, and for what? why?... there are other more simple and cheap ways to declare war LOL.TrixX wrote:Cos it was probably the single most implausible feature of the game...

When AP came out and with what it was based on I picked up on that real quick and knew where it was coming from

It's a shame they didn't make the plot more indepth, I mean a single plot just for a new game and it's unlikely 97% chance unlikely they'll add anymore plots to x3AP. I was rather disappointed to hear how bad the plot mission was.

Quick tip for those stuck for cash!
20 lasertowers + 2 adv sats + pirate highway...
Go to hatikvah faith and put 10 on the split gate 10 on the argon gate and watch the bounties roll in.....made me 44 million so far lol.
If they send an m1 you need to go there and distract in your m3 but its a cheap way to get better ships and make cash + rep....also it keeps alot of the pirates / xenon from going into teladi space and split space so you can let your UT / ST fly around without any escorts.

I bet it just fills you with confidence that they are making plot more of a focus in Rebirth.Requiemfang wrote:It's a shame they didn't make the plot more indepth, I mean a single plot just for a new game and it's unlikely 97% chance unlikely they'll add anymore plots to x3AP. I hope they hired some writers and...well, whatever it takes to actually create interesting stories and scenarios. If I'm giving up my ability to fly more than one ship, I better be getting some compensation from other aspects of the game.
If you want a different perspective, stand on your head.

Hmm thats a good tip, never thought of that. Ill have to try that. I have a few lasers towers at certain gates to distract pirates, but they were eventually taken out by a continual respawn of caravel with blastclaw prototypes. Damn Mass drivers i tell you.Rizkerd wrote:Quick tip for those stuck for cash!

Looks like ill need to invest in a laser factory!
Quick question regarding bases and deployable docks you can buy.l.., whats the difference between equipment docks, military outpost, orbital defense stations, asteroid bases, and PHQ. Theres a variety of docks the player can buy at the shipyards, but what exactly do these bases do? Is there any strategic difference between say the asteroid base and the PHQ? Or is it just the same thing with different names?
Im wondering if its worth investing in the asteroid base? Says it can recycle ships in the description, whatever that means. Can it also produce new ones?
