If you have never used the Plugin Manager in your game, then you probably have modified the wrong TWareT for your game.

The "best practice" is to always "Open from VFS". That way, X3Editor will ensure that you are opening the file that is active in your game. (Of course, you must have the X3Editor profile set up correctly for TC or AP in order for this to work).

If you *have* used the Plugin Manager to install a .xsp ship or a .spk that uses a custom ware, then opening and closing the PM merges the files (including TWareT).

Are you playing AP or TC? There are two in the xrm cat/dats, one for each game - make sure you're editing the right one.

XRM - solo in M3? newbie question

Post by tkrysiak »

Hi Guys

Quick one, I have been playing X series for years now and been using many mods but never bothered with total conversions. I feel like I have achieved most in X3 TC/AP and decided to install XRM given its playerbase/amazing feedback.

I expected much harder combat but from what I see everything is geared towards fleet battles? (correct me if Im wrong)

My question to veterans is:

Is it still possible to solo in M3/corvette and have some fun or would it be constant hide/run from larger spawns of enemies?

Roaming in small ships is what I enjoy most even after hundreds of hours into the games so this is rather crucial bit of information.

Thanks in advance!

Corvettes are kind of substitute for fighters in XRM as personal ships, imo, mostly due to the inability of fithers to use a JD, and also because your survival chances in an M3 fighter are rather low ( but not impossible ) due to improved missiles in XRM.
That said, it´s very well possible to fly a heavy fighter ( preferably M3+ ), and take part even in larger battles ( i had a decent success piloting a Thor, and still participating in the XRM scripted Argon - Terran war, though i used turbo booster a lot :P ), but then i´m not a hell of a pilot, tbh. But you have to watch out for M7M/M8/M3B around, because as it is right now, a near explosion of one of these babies can ruin your whole day. Moskito MD is a must, i´d say, along with custom turret commands.
To use fighters as your main player ship you could get yourself a TM ( which are quite cheap ) so you´re able to jump around, and also you could have some wingmen to assist you when needed, plus some XL cargo space to store the loot.
As for Corvettes - i normaly fly one of them as my personal ship, and, depending on the weapons layout, i can easily take on Xenon medium patrols, generic Pirate raiding parties, or invoke some havoc in border sectors of major races. Btw. a Frigate won´t really make a difference if you decide to take on Xenon, or Khaakh capitals, their guns are really evil.
So, unlike in vanilla, you have to more carefully pick up your fights, because you can´t be sure to survive certain engagements, and also since there are no "i win" ships in XRM ( there are very dominant ships in each class, but then they do not fit for other duties very well; an example here would be Split "Wolf": you can shred fighters and corvettes to pieces with it, but taking on an assault frigate ala Cyclops would be rather unwise ).
Of course, if you want to mess with enemy fleets, you´d need a fleet of your own, which makes sence, doesn´t it?

In Vanilla you could pretty much kill anything in an M3 with PBGs. In XRM though there is no I win weapon so as an M3 you'll need to rely on missiles to take out anything larger than yourself. I personally only use an M3 as my escape pod/shuttle on my missile frigate and I haven't spotted a single one yet that can equip a jumpdrive. Even the experimental shuttle doesn't have one, which is kinda silly if you ask me.

XRM has a good selection of fast M6s that fly like fighters so you'll probably want to upgrade to an M6. You might look at a Split Drake as soon as you can afford it though I personally prefer M7s.

There are actually 2 fighters, which have XL ware size cargohold, and thus are capable of installing a JD ;)
Spoiler
Show
These are the two Goner M3: the Ranger and the Crusader, buyable at the Goner shipyard in Lightseeker, a sector to the North of Nikonofune ( a Boron sector in the "western" part of a map )

Great! Thank you for your help. Setting up the Editor correctly and then editing the right file was the solution.
So my MK3 Improvement Reloaded UTs can upgrade their cargo bay at once when they hit lvl 13. Without making my existence too beggarly :)

Awesome mod btw. Challenging but awesome!

Double 'plus'.

Last time i saw the "other" ship, it had XL size, iirc :?
And the "one" listed as M5 is on purpose? Man, i never new it, first thing i´d do will be to go get one! ( either that, and i´ve found an ideal storage for my M6, so thx @cjm, or paul will change it to M3 in the next release, like the Pirate Katana capable of docking any fighter ;) ).
Hm, encripted speaking not to spoil others fun sounds bit strange...

Howdy
So i am new to the X seriers, i logged about 20 hours this weekend and decided to look at some mods. Quick issues is now my saved game wont open. here is what i did.

1. installed X3 AP
2. played 20 or so hours
3. Installed XRM
4. based on XRM page I installed improved space graphics
5. based on XRM page I installed Cockpit Mod
6. Based on XRM page I installed Docking computer size fix
7. I then installed the bonus material patch from egosoft

Now my saves say they are corrupt. I know if i undo all the mods and go back to vanilla everything will work but I would like to try the mods. Is there anyway to make it work with my old saves? oh and new games start just fine with no issues.

Good to know there are a few XL cargo class fighters. I'll have to keep looking.

Something weird. The xenon Dark Matter Beam Cannon always drops my framerate to single digit whenever it hit something. After much testing, it seems that "Rapid box - width/height/length" in Tbullet for DMBC is the cause. There's no more framerate slow down when I'm using 0.2/0.2/5 for Rapid box- width/height/length. But with original value, it just straight up kills the framerate.

Maybe it's because my old old rig (phenom II x4 980 oc'd to 4ghz). I dunno. Gonna try it with the original value on my friend's 4670k once I have the chance.

Frame rate drops with beams are generally associated with X3's buggy impact effects - changing the rapid box means it will hit less often and thus reduce the number of impact effects. But you're also making the weapon less effective. I suggest putting it back to its original value and instead setting the impact effect to "0".

I originally had all beam impact effects set to 0, but after testing I deemed modern PCs could handle them without any noticable drop in frames. Instead I chose to create less complex impact effects.

What is your favorite M7 class ship (not m7m or m7c). I just loved Agamemnon due its great shield and weapon diversity. My second choice is Hayabusa because it has solid speed and powerful main guns.

Once i´ve tried Split "Wolf" i didn´t want to fly any other Frigate, - it´s a slaughtering machine against anything smaller then it, in any numbers, and it can take on light Frigates too.
I´ve yet to test out Split "Ocelot", but aside it´s tiny shields, it has a front turret, which i prefer to main guns, tbh.

If you want a real monster, go for the Khaakh Frigate. But first you´ll have to survive the encounter; i remember trying to hack it in Lehans Legacy, while flying a Xenon "I", jus to find out, that my ship would only last about half a minute :D If i´d wanted to kill it, it would be doable, of course, but capturing it is a PITA. The only way to do it might be using hundreds of drones, and/or using IonCannons to stunn it, so it can´t shoot back.

@cjm: i´m on it ;)

Well, I actually did try changing the impact effect(to -1). But it still causes framerate drop (in an empty sector, FPS goes from 40 to 16 everytime the DMBC hits a large enough target (M7 and up).

I'm currently trying to get enough cap weapons to fit my Xenon C.
Both the Wolf and the Hayabusa a really nice too.

@paul:
Now that i think of it, every time i´m fighting larger Xenon fleets ( mostly consisting of at least a J and a C, i experience laggs. The only reason i never paid attention to those is because i thought the sheer quantity of ships engaged ( fleet battles on a laptop: i-7, 2670M @ 2,2ghz + 3.1turbo on one core, 8gig, 560ti M 1,5gigs, ssd ) would cause that lagg, actually. Btw: all my settings are down to medium, only the shaders + colour variations are "on", no AA or AF.
