No portion of the cooperative ISS venture is going to be effected. The Russian space program couldn't sustain itself without such contracts.Freya Nocturne wrote:Can we just leave Russia alone? Yeah, they annexed Crimea. That's between Russia and Ukraine, not the rest of us. (Like seriously USA? You're dropping all cooperative projects between NASA and Roscosmos over this? Enjoy not going to the ISS anymore, or having to ask the Chinese for a lift. Oh wait, you can't, you still give them the cold-war-shoulder too.)...

Of course I feel sure such satellites do not already exist in the control of governments. In February the first few in its initial batch of 28 were ejected out of an airlock on the International Space Station. These cubesats - called "doves" in line with their peace-harbouring ambitions - are now sending back their first images from low-Earth polar orbit, passing over Earth at five miles a second.
.......
Other start-ups, such as Skybox and Canadian Urthecast, are focusing their efforts on high-definition video, with far bigger fridge-freezer-sized satellites equipped with more powerful telescopes capturing far more detail than those capable in mere cubesats.
At a resolution of just over 1m per pixel, the most powerful on-board telescopes can track single cars travelling along a road, or groups of people gathering.

Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space

Now its ok for the government to perform special intelligence operations in which agents can commit illegal acts with no fear of persecution or liability. However reporting on illegal government activities is now illegal.
