I can't find the ISIS thread, at the moment, but I wanted to post this: Turkey say's it will not enter ground war against ISIS alone
This is important and will determine the foreign policy surrounding the current problems in Syria and Iraq with ISIS.
If nations wish to affect a positive outcome, they are going to have to vote to intervene and, no matter what sort of intervention that might be, it will involve "boots on the ground." Turkey will not, Iraq can't do it effectively, the Kurds are outgunned without more direct and coordinated support and Syria is only concerned with Syria. If only regional partners were involved, it would involve Jordon, Syria, Turkey, Egypt (maybe) and Iran... That's not going to happen. It's going to take Western intervention and a lot of foreign politicking.

Hi everyone,
I am curious who else likes M.O.R.E.-type of spacegames as well as this one.
Are there any backers here?
They have had a successfull kickstarter about a year ago, and now have a second one running for additional features and polish.
They're showing a series of videos at the moment which really got me extremely excited (so excited I want them to really knock it out of the park and get their funding, so that's a second motive of writing this post, I admit
).
This is the last one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTQgY012PP8
This video update is a true gem for those with attention to detail: you can really see how much of a labour of love this game is and how they really think about making it as easy as possible for players to customize the way they want to play (how they did their notification settings for example).
And you can also see it's still early days, pre-alpha
Next video is about spacebattles and spaceship construction.. should be a good one.
So, anyone a backer already and/or interested? (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14 ... re-of-more)
PS: posted here as I could not find any thread about this game yet and I cannot seem to make new threads? Is that broken?

It looks like Stardrive, but probably with less appeal. (That's kind of saying a lot.)Godani wrote:...So, anyone a backer already and/or interested? (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14 ... re-of-more)...
Right now, 4X space games are a dime-a-dozen. This is exactly the wrong time for a dev to be trying to push a 4x space game unless they have broken the mold and have something truly unique.
All I saw was fluff and a scripted youtube Q&A session, done rather hamfistedly.

Morkonan, well, I disagree.
But yeah, I respect your opinion of course.
What I wanted to ask, what new 4X spacegames are there then?
Because Civ:BE doesn't appeal to me in the least, and the only other one that's coming I know about is Predestination.
We had Horizon which I had some fun with, been patched a bit lately, I should give it another spin
But others? No.. Not really (Stardrive is realtime).
And if they're good, who cares how many there are? It's not as if I will only play 1 game in the coming year or two
I'll gladly play both/all.

Just a quick response, since this thread is mostly for short subjects. (Plus, wanted to give a fellow 4x'er some game links.Godani wrote:...What I wanted to ask, what new 4X spacegames are there then?...

Galactic Civilizations III Beta is out - http://www.galciv3.com/
Stardrive II is in dev - http://www.stardrivegame.com/
Star Ruler II is in early access - http://starruler2.com/
Distant Worlds: Universe - Finally left the safety of its own distribution model and went to Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/26147 ... 7_237__103
There are others, out there, many of them older games with new exposure pushes. I picked up a Hedgemon pack for $5 not long ago.
Here's a link to Spacesector, a site I recommend for space 4x'ers. http://www.spacesector.com/ There's a couple of reviews/interviews with MORE there, by the way.

Not sure if this really fits in this thread, but not worth starting another one ...
I just found this TED lecture, and thought some of you may enjoy it too. Cool stuff with quadcopters.

@ burger1: Now all I need is an Occulus Rift and a system capable of running it well. Never mind a decent bandwidth. However excellent indeed.

Amazing, isn't it? It's so far away, the farthest man-made object from Earth in the Universe.Terre wrote:Voyager 1 is now eighteen light hours from Earth.
Yet, it's not even a stumbling footstep closer to the closet star to Earth, Proxima Centauri, which is 4.3 light years from Earth.
Still, it's quite an achievement and we should be proud of it - It's ours!

That statement had me putting my geek hat on, and reaching for the calculator ...Morkonan wrote:Yet, it's not even a stumbling footstep closer to the closet star to Earth, Proxima Centauri, which is 4.3 light years from Earth.
By my reckoning *, if a stride is taken as being 1.5ft then voyager 1 has taken the first step of a 0.6 mile (approx - it's a tiny bit less actually) walk.
Does anyone know how its current speed away from the solar system relates to its speed so far along the current trajectory ? I imagine that with the various loopy bits taken into account that it is now travelling faster, and that the next 18 light hours won't take as long as the first 18 did. Anyone know/worked out/looked up the numbers ? This could make the effective journey quicker, as each 18 light hour step will take less time to make.
Rug
* Working out :
Distance to nearest star
4.3 years = 1570.575 days
So far travelled 0.75 days, therefore fraction of distance covered is :
1570.575 / 0.75 = 2094.1
If distance so far = 1 step, then journey is :
2094.1 * 1.5 = 3141.15 ft
Divide by 5280 to get miles = 0.5949
I like to think everyone just wants to feel human.

Voyager is only going to get slower for the foreseeable future--it's climbing out of the Sun's gravity well with no thrust, so the backwards pull of the Sun will slow it down. That will only change when it gets far enough away that other stars begin to pull on it more strongly than the Sun does, and that will take tens of thousands of years.
