Do not use the MARS TShips with XRM. It only adds the repair drones (which I believe are built into XRM). In any case, the MARS TShips is not required for the repair drones to work.

What is MDK2?

MDK2 is a zip in the XRM download. I think it has to do with missile defense. I'm not sure if it does anything that MARS doesn't.

Do you mean MD Mk2? That is Missile Defense Mark 2; for TC only. You do not need it in AP, nor do you need it with MARS.

... You do not need it in AP ...
I'm don't use MARS, but I'm curious about this. Why don't you need Missile Defense with AP?

I installed AP from Steam and Missile Defense was only available in the Ship Commands menu after I also installed the Bonus Package http://store.steampowered.com/app/235960/

You need to use missile defense turret scripts, obviously.

You do not need "Missile Defense Mk2" which is a turret script written specifically for TC.

AP has better built-in turret scripts written by the same author. Think of it as "missile defense Mk3".

Okay, so lots of thanks for the responses! After playing XRM and vanilla and researching more, I decided that vanilla is more for me.

That said, I need a missile defense system. MARS feels too much like cheating to me. It has too deadly an accuracy and the auto-assigning of weapons is just a little too much.

I tried looking for some specifics for what MDMK2 actually does, but googling for x3tc mods mdmk2 was less fruitful than I expected. I'll play with the mod and see if I like it, but just to ask for the sake of clarification, would it be safe to say that mdmk2 is an in-between of MARS and vanilla? Mainly, I want higher accuracy with my auto-turrets, but not quite on the level of MARS. Also, I don't want it to auto-assign weapons.

Are you playing AP? If so, then MD MK2 is not compatible. The vanilla missile defense scripts are better.

If you are playing TC then, yes, use MD Mk2.

Also, Missile Defense Mosquito is a good supplement (in either TC or AP). You can get it from the Bonus Pack or Lucike's web site (via Google Translate).

Bookmark this link: Search EgoSoft (Google). It will make searching easier for you. Searching for "MD MK2" put the correct topic at the top of the list for me. As with any searches, mis-spellings (such as "MDMK2") will produce poorer-quality results.

I like to give MARS to enemy capital ships (it is one of the options on the MARS menu). Makes them more aggressive and more difficult to kill.

Yes, in TC, MD Mk2 is between MARS and the vanilla scripts in quality. MD Mk2 does not swap weapons.

A good alternative to both MARS and vanilla scripts is Smart Turrets. Shimrod's work is very high quality.

At risk of repetition, you do not need add-on missile defense turret scripts in AP. The vanilla turret scripts were written by Gazz and Shimrod (the authors of MARS and SMART).

If your CPU is fast enough, you can enable MARS for ALL ships! This makes fights more difficult for you, because your opponents now also don't try to hit you with weapons you can easily dodge.
But beware of the performance hit - here with a 4 GHz Haswell system this is on the edge to be playable in huge fights with 30+ ships (for example in Xenon border sectors or war sectors).

Thanks for all the advice and help! And sorry, Paul, didn't mean to derail the thread. I'm also pleased to see this game has a strong community after 7+ years.

I'm in TC atm and will try your suggestions and bookmark that link. Will probably run XRM in AP if I don't waste the rest of my life in TC.

Thanks again for all the help!

Can anybody confirm that Litcube Phanon Corp. is no longer compatible with XRM ?

They sit in the sector and do nothing, no UT no factories.

I used it not long ago even with the xrm patch, they barely did anything and there cash was always in the minus, pretty much no trading what so ever

Hey, I'm making a sort of examination of X3, and I'm putting a guide to some of the major mods at the bottom. Do you mind if I include XRM in that list?

I change the numbers on the cat/dat files an put em in the addon directory, but it still ends up crashing.

I dont use plugin manager (unless I am sposed too ??)....

But I dont really get it,

Crashing like you describe is usually due to installing into the base TC folder, but then running AP. For AP you need to install to the addon folder.

Can you post a screenshot of your installation folder? This will confirm it.

when I copy a clean install, I have noticed the game works even with no steam exe, but the second you install anything the no steam exe crashes the game.

Can you also post a screenshot of your "addon" folder where the XRM is installed?

I suspect it may be due to having file extensions hidden. In Explorere click on organise -> Folder and Search Options -> View -> uncheck Hide extensions for known file types

You may have accidentally named your cat/dats with a double file extension.
