Oh... Hmm, I haven't really looked into it very well. So, Windows 10 is "Unified Platform Mk II" I take it? Thanks, but no thanks... I don't "unify."CBJ wrote:Attractive though the idea of Windows 10 being a free upgrade is in principle, huge alarm bells start ringing for me when they start talking about it being a "unified platform"...
Actually, I'd disagree with that. It's great for marketers to get personal information at the touch of a button and great for hardware companies hawking new devices so idgits can watch 3hr movies on a screen the size of a playing card... And, sure, it's great for users, who are starting to become much more distanced from human contact and social empathy, despite their Tweets and Friend Lists... Actually, it's only of limited "greatness."It's great that it's getting easier, and cheaper, for people to use technology to communicate with one another and conduct their social lives...

Absolutely. I can't stand, for instance, when websites move to a tablet-friendly format. It's disgusting. Half the page is crappy art and borders with 30pt fonts! It makes me feel like I'm looking at a website optimized for 800x600, like the "Good Old Days" of teh interwebz... What's next? Are we going back to CGI so holograph projectors don't have to fiddle with so many colors?... to be able to make maximum use of the screen real-estate available to them and not have it taken over by acres of white-space and pretty but non-functional graphical fluff.
A nicely informative rant, in my opinion. Thanks. I'll be much more wary of WDS10.Yeah, so, rant over. For now.
