Can someone help out a newbie?

I struggle with doing anything at the start of the game. Im playing Argon patriot, so I still have the Elite you get at the start.
Shooting down things with it is not easy, because you get oneshot by missiles all the time or you just cant single out an enemy.
I tried going the trader route but when seeing the small price of 3 million for the MK3 trade software I gave up on it and wanted to do the corporate quest line instead.
Somehow I managed to travel to Third Redemption but since every system is constantly raided by Xenon or Pirates it is impossible to complete a single quest.
Since the Argon plot quests are disabled, do I really have to hunt for low level bounties to buy a bigger ship?

Here are things you can do even in a small ship at the beginning of a game:
- Defend station missions (usually the sector military will wipe out the attackers, you just need to watch)*
- Xenon incursions (same as above, the sector military will wipe them out; however, you will only get the full reward if you kill at least one attacker here, like a straying Xenon N)*
- Transport personal missions (if you have a cargo lifesupport system; don't take the missions which mention that they need a luxury transport - you can only do them if you use a TP class ship)
- Scan asteroids (if you have a mineral scanner)
- If you are patient, do the spy missions where you have to follow a target for a while

* The game will decide what type of enemy ships will be spawned based on your combat rank - since it's low at the start of the game, you won't encounter big ships.

Freight scanning missions in pirate space are the best earners
Get a freight scanner and a fast m5 and search for them in pirate sectors that get decent traffic, make sure to bring some mosquito's to help deal with missiles
Bala G's Joy and Hatikvah's faith are good sectors to do these missions
The reason the payout is so good is because of the increased cost of ship extensions
Just 2 or 3 of these missions and you should be able to afford a good m6

i allways failed missions like that :)
Thank you for the tips.

Where can i see a shiplist, how many MJ/GJ or Number of Turrets or which Rockets can be used on which ships?

I just noticed that http://www.strikingsoftware.com/xrmstats.html XRM List Link is no more. And the other site: http://blubb.najut.org/x3/ doesnt show the missing part, which iam looking for.

Anyone knows another website or source, where to get these informations?

Edit: ISAvsOver
The easiest way to get started with some money are missions, where u defend the bases in a sector where military ships are. And starting Assassin Missions are not that hard with Elite (M4) - on start u have to kill 1 m4/m3, if they have assistances just ignore them and get some Moskito Rockets for the defence while assassinate the target.

Another option is like Dead is Dead mode:
Travel to War Sections
Wait
Collect the Loot & Sell (like Weapons or Rockets)

You can implicitly see how many shields a ship can use when only knowing the maximum shielding. For example, if you see on my site that an M6 has 1200 MJ, there is only one possibility to reach that: 6x200 MJ, since M6 can only use up to 200 MJ shields. There is a bit of uncertainty for M7, because some of them can only use 1 GJ shields and others 2 GJ ones. All M2 and M1 (with the exception of the MK I ships) can use 2 GJ shields. So my question is: why do you want to see the maximum shield size explicitly?

Concerning the number of turrets: I didn't find this an interesting number because it can be misleading sometimes. For example, have a look at the Split Komodo's turret configuration.

Concerning missile compatibility: I haven't found a good way to display so much information in a single table row, that's because I don't display it. :)
I found the display on the old site nearly unreadable.

Did you have a look at the ingame ship browser by zanzal? This is a really good tool for getting more information: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=362832

The ingame encyclopedia has all this info once you explore enough, you could always use the cheat package to find all encycopledia entries
The only things not displayed in it for ships is price and what types of ships can dock at certain ships(most of the new ships have this info)

Thanks for your tips guys but some of them are not very useful... collecting rockets? How on earth is that going to bring you any kind of income at a cost of 2-3k per rocket? You need millions to buy anything.

Anyways, in the meantime I managed to upgrade to an Eclipse but im still stuck with PACs. Are those any good against anything bigger than M4s? I already struggle to kill other M3s, should I use auto aim or set it to semi?

Is there a short guide to weapons in XRM since they are rebalanced? If not Id need some tips for arming my ships.

And a little off-topic: Since start of my adventure, there is a Kha'ak Advanced Destroyer sitting in Nathans Voyage, obliterating everything. Will something manage to stop it eventually or is it just sitting there accumulating bounty for me to eventually harvest? (Currently at 203 million from Argon, rising)

There are missiles which cost considerably more, like several 100,000 credits.

PACs are really light weapons. Of course you can also kill with them an M3, but usually it takes too long with such light weapons - your target will use the time to kill you faster.
Auto aim is of course the best aiming mode. If your target marker is near the enemy, it will automatically aim your shots at the most probable position to hit.

What exactly do you want to know about weapons in XRM?

In every XRM game there is a Kha'ak battle group (with an advanced destroyer and usually two frigates) in a random sector. There are several ways to deal with this:
- If you get very lucky, a big enough fleet by the sector owner will eventually engage this battle group and deal with them.
- When your combat rank is high enough that there are Xenon destroyers spawning on Xenon invasion missions or defend station missions, you can also start such a mission in this sector: there is nothing more satisfying to see when the Xenon and the Kha'ak are pounding the shit out of each other.
- You can use several M8s or M7Ms with enough missiles to kill them from afar.
- Or you get really cocky and go 1on1 with an Kha'ak Advanced Destroyer - there are destroyers which are able to do so, but you have to fly them by yourself to get the maximum damage. AI controlled destroyers will get beaten easily. I managed to do so with an OTAS Tempest. The key here is to use the special abilities of some capital ship class weapons.

Id like to know which weapons are go-to for an Eclipse. PRGs seem to be the most destructive M weapons which would fit, or should I equip something else?

Yes, PRGs are the strongest Argon fighter weapons. You may also want to have some wasp missiles for faster targets.

Please turn off caps lock when writing posts, there's no need for screaming.

On the first page of this mod's thread you find the download links as well as the installation instructions:
paulwheeler wrote:- DOWNLOADS -

NOTE - ALL THREE PARTS ARE REQUIRED

If continuing a v1.29 save please read the release notes thoroughly

MAIN FILES:

XRM v1.30 PART 1

XRM v1.30d PART 2

XRM v1.30 PART 3
This file is unchanged from v1.29

(Note - Do not install Part 3 if running Linux - see below)

I strongly recommend you thoroughly read through the first three posts of this thread before installing the XRM for installation instructions, information about compatibility, XRM special features instructions and technical support.
paulwheeler wrote:ALBION PRELUDE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

-The "fake patch" method works best for the XRM. I do not recommend using the Plugin Manager to install the XRM as it's extremely difficult to control the order the mods are installed in which can lead to problems.

- Extract the three parts to a temporary folder and look at the other dat/cat files you have in the main AP installation folder (in your Terran Conflict\Addon directory). Rename the XRM cat/dats to the next consecutive number from the existing ones, i.e. if the last ones are 03.dat and 03.cat rename the XRM files to 04.dat/04.cat and 05.dat/05.cat. Move the XRM cat/dats to the AP installation folder.

- NOTE - THEY MUST HAVE TWO DIGITS! It is essential that your cat/dat pairs have two digits in the file name. So they must be "04.cat/dat" - not "4.cat/dat". The "0" is vital.

- It does not matter which order the two XRM "parts" are installed in, however, please note which one is which as updates may only be on one file or the other. Addon packs must be installed to higher cat/dat numbers than the base XRM.

- Copy the contents of the "director" folder to the director folder in your main AP (addon) directory. If a director folder does not exist then create one.

- Copy the contents of the "t" folder to the t folder in your main AP (addon) directory. If a t folder does not exist then create one.

- Copy the contents of the "scripts_AP" folder to the "scripts" folder in your main AP (addon) directory. Overwrite any existing files.

- From Part 3 copy the contents of the "mov" folder to the same folder in your AP (addon) directory overwriting or renaming the existing files.

- From Part 3 Copy the contents of the "soundtrack" folder to the same folder in the underlying TC directory - NOT ADDON - where all the other music tracks are found.

- You will need to navigate to the \mov folder in your AP (addon) directory. you will need to locate the 00044 file and either rename, move, or delete this file. Without doing this you will not get any new custom names said by "betty".

- Before running X3AP you must open and close the Plugin Manager (if installed), regardless of which version you are running. This is so the Plugin Manager can integrate the XRM ware size changes.

- Run the game. You should get a message saying the XRM has been installed when you start a new game.

- There will be a pause for a minute or two at the start of a new game. This is the scripts allocating weapons to all the initially created jobs. This pause only happens at the very start of a new game.

-To install the hull packs, cockpit packs and background pack simply extract the contents to the AP (addon) directory and rename the hull pack or cockpit pack cat/dat to a higher number than the main XRM mod. To reload the hulls for all ships, run X3AP, enter the script editor, highlight the script "temp.xrm.hull.reload.xml" and hit "r".

- If using the XRM in conjunction with other mods, installation order may be essential. Please see the compatibility notes below for any special cases.

- To install the load screens copy the contents of "loadscr" in part 2 to the "addon/loadscr" folder.

STEAM INSTALLATIONS -

You will need to recopy all scripts from Part 2 whenever TC or AP update via Steam or if Steam verifies the game cache - BEFORE loading an XRM save. This is because it will pick up the XRM modified versions of scripts and replace them with vanilla versions. Also steam will put the 00044 file back into the mov folder so this will need removing again.

Best practise is to create a completely separate X3 installation for the XRM and keep your main steam install as vanilla. Simply copy and past the entire Terran Conflict directory (for both AP and TC) to a new location. Use the no-steam exe from the Egosoft downloads section. Be aware than if you have multiple copies of X3, they will all use the same save game folder.
Follow these instructions step by step and if you have a specific problem with either of them, please tell us exactly what the problem is.

PRG are the main argon fighter weapon, so use them and missiles
Disruptors are regular space loot from pirates and they are the perfect m5 killer and have huge range and speed, 3/4 will also take down most m4's
Banshee's, thunderbolts and Beluga's are the best m3 missiles
Tempests are the best m4's killers, 2/3 will take down most m3's and they are retarget missiles so very useful

When you have a m6, hornets are one of the top missiles as they one hit kill all cluster sizes and are good against m8's and m6's

Try to get another ship with special command software and a jumpdrive and use that to collect all the missiles that are left after a fight while you go elsewhere

The ingame encyclopedia is a very good in game tool, it logs all the things that you and your property come in contact with, so use it to compare, ships, weapons, missiles, shields and where to buy just about everything.
It is one of the most important tools in a game like x3 and gets overlooked a lot.

How would I go about making a trading corp/empire? Ive read a guide for vanilla X3AP but the constant buttpicking from pirates and other pests makes it a little different, doesnt it? Or is it the same, equipping Mercuries (managed to capture a terran baldric :P) with MK3 software and making them sector traders?

You can go MK3 traders, but since XRM is using the vanilla X3 script (which is designed for a much more peaceful universe), they won't survive for very long.
I suggest using either the "MK3 Reloaded" script (very similar to vanilla MK3 traders, but with way more precautious ship captains) or "OK Traders" (beware, this script will earn you lots of money very fast, because the traders start with maximum efficiency) for MK3 traders.

There are also a lot more efficient TS vessels for STs/UTs than those Mercury freighters. :)
