Question about ingame menu text scaling

Post by S7 »

Hi everybody

Since I've seen a few screenshots from earlier twitter posts and have seen a few parts of the menu already, which I know is far from final, I was wondering if there is a chance to scale up the menu text size without reducing the resolution?

Reason for the question is that even in XR the text was pretty small, though it received some increase in size compared to X3.

Thanks

The UI can be scaled.

Will the monitors / screens in the ships and stations actually have a use or are they just there to look nice.

It would be good if they actualy had usefull information on them.
Just... another... bug.

Yes it's good to read! If I may ask… will the UI modifiable like sliding Windows or such?

Have more than one window/screen/page (what ever you want to call it) open at the same time?
Customize the position and size of items in the HUD?
These are all essentially the same question, and the answer is no. The game's UI is not a Windows application, it's an in-game presentation which appears a bit like a holographic HUD, and I'm afraid the "Minority Report" style of control of that presentation isn't something we've been able to replicate!

I'm actually glad that X games will continue with their current UI approach. I personally feel that having something like EVE Online (which people seem to be requesting) would be far too much for this game. It would make it feel like a spreadsheet manager rather than a game where we occasionally dip into UI screens.

Most modern games shy away from too much overlay-type UI and integrate UI elements into the player's HUD as much as possible so the best approach is to continue with that. I.e. contextual menus and commands to hide unneeded complexity at any given moment.

Sorry CBJ... I thought I heard about that answer somewhere... my apologies

That's very cool, thanks!

The large-size HUD detail monitor was a welcome addition to XR, so I'm glad X4 has an even better fine-grain control.

Yeah. Really need UI scaling (will text be scaled as well). Really need this not to be forced to play in 720p in my 4k tv...

Last time I tried XR ran in 4k but nothing was readable without putting my nose against the tv.
Save game editor XR and CAT/DAT Extractor
Keep in mind that it's still a work in progress although it's taking shape nicely.

If anyone is interested in a new save game editor for X4 and would like to contribute to the creation of one let me know. I do not have sufficient time to create it alone, but if there are enough people who want it and want to contribute we might be able to set something up.
