If a no fly zone was established, that would necessitate air strike to destroy SAMs in Belarus and also Russia. It would be extremely risky, not that I would oppose it. Especially if Ukraine looks like it is not able to hold out alone with its own forces and air defense.mr.WHO wrote: ↑Sat, 26. Not that they would, but just wondering how something like that would fly with the rest of NATO? If done, it would sort of obligate the rest of the members to protect Poland from Russian response. What a mess of nasty WW3 possibilities.
It would make more harm than good, as it seem there are some more and more second thoughs among Russian population and soldiers.
The only thing, that I could see viable, If it would be like UN declared no-fly zone to protect Ukraine airspace (but stay away from Belarus, Russia or separatist territories).
In that setting, I could see Poland sending its F-16 as part of UN task force.
However there is no chance for UN resolution as Russia would veto.
I think there is technically no way to strip Russia from Security Council - I have absolutely no doubt that UK, France, US and China would not allow it, as it would open the door to kick them out as well in future...politics.

Nope. Wars produces this type of stories in droves and they spread as wildfire. If you see further back in the thread, where I have linked to the news article from CNN that says that Russians are sending in reinforcements into Ukraine?Vertigo 7 wrote: ↑Sun, 27. 5k troops would hardly account for the entirety of the reinforcements, I'd think. It's possible both situations are true.
Mutinies among soviets were commonplace towards the fall of the Soviet Union. And from the interviews given of Russian troops captured by Ukraine, it's pretty clear they were also lied to by Putin (only on the border for "exercises" and the sudden inexplicable Nazi outbreak in Ukraine shockingly turned out to be another lie) and have no desire to be in this fight, for the most part. Just saying it's very likely that some of the Russian forces will refuse to fight.

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
I was more thinking that this guy would have picked up if such large formation was rebelling. Also the reinforcements would not have been sent in but either told to stay put (to put down the rebellion, provide security, etc, etc...). All of these are activities which the journalist would have picked up. Note that this news arrived first 12 hours ago (or thereabout - I saw it yesterday) and so far no newspaper have picked it up?
I am not saying this is not true, just that they are saying what most would say if captured suddenly by non-professional army* you don't know anything about, especially first 30 minutes when you are just as likely to end up dead in a ditch somewhere as to be processed as POW. That is human nature.Vertigo 7 wrote: ↑Sun, 27. Feb 22, 08:29 Mutinies among soviets were commonplace towards the fall of the Soviet Union. *I put this caveat in before someone tries to pontificate about Geneva Convention and dredges examples of heroism and pathos in face of capture.
When I see situations where droves of Russian deserters crosses into Poland, Romania, etc... - then I will entertain the thought that some Russians refusing to fight.

It's gonna happen:
https://twitter.com/visegrad24/status/1 ... 8171935746
Ukraine also announced to make Foreign legion from volunteers.
Yesterday I saw flash mob food & suplies donations in multiple cities in Poland, as well as huge line of blood donation in Warsaw.
The morale is so high that, there will be volunteers for sure.
I can also easily imagine Polish special force taking a holiday break to visit Ukraine.
Putin was doing the same and we were taking notes

For those that need/want geographical presentation of the conflict (plus if you read news article mentioning that village X has been bypassed, you can put this in a context of overall campaign. ):

Russia has placed its nuclear forces on high alert, in yet another threat aimed as western powers.

INB4 - "But they are provoked by aggressive Western actions while they were rapi...pacifying Ukraine from a nazi yew western puppet leader".

That being said - this is a bit standard for Putins diplomacy as you can see in the article below from 2016.
https://www.thelocal.no/20161031/norway ... s-marines/
Now I am not saying he is NOT going to launch a tactical nuke on Ukraine to prove a point but right now he has no reason. Sure Russians are fumbling this big time but they are actually advancing every day and seem to have rather free reign in the south of the country, having almost linked the Crimea with Donbass with only Mariupol city being in the way.

Well, I think he can give the order or press the big red button...but there is still a lot of sane people betwen this and actual launch.
I think it's more likely, that he will have violent lead poisoning from his own bodyguards and ministers, when he will even look into the direction of that particular suitcase.

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
yes, well, it could also mean he's ready to nuke Ukraine.
Putin has to be feeling some embarrassment that his forces haven't accomplished their mission. He practically issued the order to ready the nukes in the same breath he agreed to negotiations on Belarus's border.
I suspect the negotiations are a trap, hoping to capture or kill Zelenkskyy. Of course, he's not an idiot which is why he rejected the talks happen inside Belarus. But I hope that means he sends a proxy. It's not as if Putin will be there.
Also... Zoom? Skype? Google Meet? Facetime? etc...
