Didn't papa Putin already declare Ukraine is part of Russia?

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
Give Ukraine missiles that can take down the Crimean bridge, that can hit every Russian military target through most/all of Russia. That to me is money well spent, and might even be cheaper than just keep giving money slowly.
I've never read that Ukranians what to surrender to Russia. I've never read that Ukranians think Zelensky is not their man to win. If of course they will start to think that, they can replace it with someone who can go after all the pipelines that enter and leave Russia, which Zelensky isnt doing. Ukranians are already hitting Russian railway with China, which is a good call.
While Ukrainians are similar to Russians, based on our common history, what appears to make them different, they dont want to support someone who killed people in their family or their neighbors. I cant see them voting for such a person or someone who supports it. I have a lot of respect for that.
As usual the narrative presented to American Republicans is a somewhere between a fantasy and pro Russia. Until Russia takes Alaska back, right?
Even Republicans who dont want to aid Ukraine and what to help Russia instead, understand that too.
I wonder how fast Hungary wants to join Russia? The wish can be granted.

Exactly right, Russia isnt fighting for control of Donbass, it's fighting for control of all of Ukraine. If Ukraine were to give up the territory, everyone understands it means all of it.

Yep, and some eastern Europe too.
Already on the list.

That's what bizzares me - how easily Hungarians forgot Budapest 1956.

Some news about how the war is going
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 63129.html
bookmarked for history, to discuss again in 5, 10, 15 years.
for some commentary on this, you might be interesting to check out this youtube guy - Jake Broe - Russia Has Lost 90% of Their Pre-Invasion Force
it's not news of course, it's commentary on news
oh yes, Navalnyi is missing. An opposition guy, not the one we would want to see in power, but better than nothing if he were.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 63129.html
so what is the number when Russians start noticing people missing on the streets or around their homes?Russia has had 315,000 of its troops killed or injured in Ukraine, the equivalent of nearly 90 per cent of the total number of soldiers it sent to war when the invasion first began, a declassified US intelligence report said.
to 1920 or about?Vladimir Putin’s personnel losses in the 22 months of the conflict have set back Russia’s military modernisation by 18 years, a source familiar with the assessment told Reuters.

Germany delivers second Patriot system to Ukraine in new aid package
Berlin has delivered another Patriot air defense system to Ukraine, along with additional Patriot surface-to-air missiles, the German government announced on Dec. 14.
The announcement coincides with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s unannounced visit to Germany.
The message describes the latest German military aid package as follows:
- A Patriot air defense system with spare parts and missiles,
- Nine Bandvagn 206 tracked all-terrain vehicles,
- 7,390 rounds of 155mm ammunition,
- Three remote-controlled mine-clearing systems,
- 14 drone detection systems,
- Eight Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks,
- Four trailers for 8×8 HX81 tractors,
- More than 47,000 rounds of 40mm ammunition.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz previously committed to delivering a second Patriot battery to Ukraine in 2023.

One good (symbolically speaking) and one really bad news for Kiev:
Yesterday, EU leaders agreed to open membership talks with Kiev but Putin's ally Orban blocked €50 billion ($54 billion) package for Ukraine.

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
aye
according to rates mentioned by CNN of artillery shells, the math works out to 2 days indeed
are these the ones we see annihilating the suicidal troops at Avdiivka?

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
Apparently even if a deal is reached on Ukraine aid in the US before xmas the Republicans won't pass it until next year. Congress resumes January 9, 2024. Should have asked for the 110b vs 61b.
Ukraine did get 2 or 3 aid packages from the US in the mean time. Might add up to just under 50% of normal aid. Not sure how many Biden can release by himself. Other countries are donating other stuff ranging from money to equipment.
EU still dawdling about on their aid package. They should just remove Hungary's veto.
EU coming to the realization that they should have increased military production.
US makes it harder for the US to leave NATO. Unfortunately if you have a complete disregard for laws it won't matter.
Finland opens it's bases to the US.

It's a learning process it seems. I'm curious how many lives they are willing to spend until dealing with the Hungary problem.

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
To no one's surprise, Putin's 4 hour delusional rant outlined the future.
- no peace till Russia's absolute victory
- Odessa and the whole south of Ukraine till Moldova is Russian. That's a lot of people to jail and murder.
- Ukraine is not a real country btw, it's part of Russia / USSR
- Moldova, question mark?
He forgot to mention that Russian army pre invasion is gone. Black Sea fleet is gone/ missing. Were anyone actually to attack Russia it would have nothing to defend with in conventional war.

Yeah, that vision of this maniac coming true would even more go down as a bad joke in history if now all "partners" chicken out / let russian campaigns against a steady support for Ukraine win. But as we can see a lot these days - people really are in it for believing the far right extremists and even vote for them.fiksal wrote: ↑Mon, 18. I think a lot of people would prefer living in dictatorships, and fascist regimes, as long as they are the ruling class of course

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
oh there was more about Moldova that I missed
Putin said that if Moldova wants to turn away from Russia it'll be its loss. It will loose "energy" resources, and imports of "agriculture", and will instead pay 30% more for "energy" from US, "like Germany".
And all of this is because Moldova looking to leave union with Russia and enter EU.
I am hearing 'either with us or against us' line there.
You may recall that was the very first reason for war with Ukraine, the talk about EU. First before any other rants.

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
In a world, where body counts dont matter and the Russian world needs buffers states one to three deep in order to feel safe from countries it cant exploit, comes a thriller that spans the time from sunken submarines that no-one cares about, to a mythical fleet that no-one remembers. Introducing Schrodinger's generals, who you never know if they are alive or if they ever really were. Guest appearance by a group of sous chefs learning to fly a helicopter against all odds of hitting a surface to air missile.
Starring... definitely not Hitler, and mostly not Stalin.
World War Z

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
The news regarding funding from my country (the US) is not great. Apparently an increasing number of people in my country believe that serving their own narrow, inward self-interests is more important than securing the freedoms and liberties for their brothers and sisters on the other side of the world.
So my country dithers and delays in providing the type of assistance that will allow Ukraine to prevail against tyranny. I wonder if my fellow citizens who feel so apathetic towards the freedoms of Ukrainians would feel similarly if they faced the same threat at home? Would they just shrug their shoulders and worry more about their 401K and mortgages than about protecting their freedoms?
If my government will not step up and fulfill its duty to the cause of freedom, then at least I can. I just donated $300 to the United24 defense fund. I know it is a tiny drop in the bucket compared to their needs, but I can certainly live without this small amount of money. Ukrainians, however, cannot hope to live in peace and freedom without our support. And if we fail to support them in their fight now, we will have a much more dangerous, emboldened enemy to face against on our doorsteps tomorrow.
