Doctrine is just a paper - there was already several strike on radar sites that are part of nuclear warning system and nothing happened.

So we should've seen a counterstrike by now. IMO Russia is having such a hard time trying to advance in Ukraine that Putin doesn't want to provoke a NATO attack. All of Putin's empty threats change nothing, just like North Korea's.EGO_Aut wrote: ↑Fri, 31. May 24, 09:22It does not matter anymore.notaterran wrote: ↑Fri, 31. Russian doctrine would provide for a counterstrike after an attack on nuclear early warning systems.

Well, I'm afraid the UKR is slowly but surely bleeding out, while RU is slowly but surely making further progress. The Western prophecies have only been propaganda until now. RU still has tanks and missiles and especially drones. The RU conversion to a war economy is bearing fruit, while the West can hardly keep up with supplying the UKR.notaterran wrote: ↑Fri, 31. But why did they attack these radars?

What a cope. Slowly but surely doing progress means they might take third of Ukraine by 2040 maybe? U sure there will be any tanks left by then?
Just last week Ukraine captured the oldest russian T-54 that is dated to 1947 production.
Definetly a sign of russian might

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
I don't see any enthusiasm in Russia to actually go fight.
Yes they tell on social media that they are superior, that all up to France belongs to Russia,
but that seems a mismatch with people available.
The stories I read and hear show a grim situation in Russia.
As one Russia journalist said, the war for Ukraine will be over eventually, but the worst for Russia will just begin

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
The difference in the narrative is that while stories about Russia loosing are existing in the West and yes, many of them are utterly overblown, that is not the sole narrative provided by western media. The Western media also routinly reports on severe issues and shortages faced by Ukraine. See for example this CNN report that details Ukraine’s issues with the M1 tanks and especially the types of Ammunition delivered by the US. Such somber narratives are completely missing from Russian media. The reports over there are not about issues with the Russian army and instead always blame some straw man like alleged NATO soldiers which Russia has allegedly been fighting for a long time now as the source of all issues.EGO_Aut wrote: ↑Fri, 31. Re: Russia-Ukraine War
To your point, where is the Russian counterstrike? The answer is: nowhere. Russia is doing the old "when weak, appear strong". Putin has been bluffing for so long it's going to be a surprise if Russia does anything against NATO directly. Russia is advancing but, very slowly and they cannot keep this up forever. Look what happened in Afghanistan, after 10 years the Soviets had to retreat.EGO_Aut wrote: ↑Fri, 31. The two struck ferries were only damaged with one listing to the side.
Refinery/oil depot at the Russian shipping port Kavkaz hit with Neptune missile.

Putins Altai Mountain palace partially caught fire. No reliable news sources?

The residence is also home to a large farm breeding a species of deer for alternative medicine popular in parts of Russia. The antlers of the Caspian red deer are traditionally prized for their use in making health remedies, which have no scientific evidence supporting their efficacy.
More missile/drone attacks on Russian radars and military bases. More aid given to Ukraine.
At the accelerated rate when Ukraine was running out of weapons/ammo it would still take over 165 years for Russia to take Ukraine. Much longer if you take into account other factors. Prior to Russia's recent gains in April, May it was at over 1000 years.

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
What is very funny that pro-russian gloat how mighty Russia is now in war time economy...but it still fail to achive anything spectacular.
They didn't even made into Kharkiv suburbs, that are just stone throw from Russia border.
They are burning through people, resources and economy at accelerated rate.
Not to mentioned they went through 70 years of Soviet stock supplies in just two years - that's not genius, that's insane.
Meanwhile The West just casually crank up military spending by 1 or 2% (depending on the country) and start to restock stuff while still having supplies for Ukraine.
In just a few years, Central/Eastern Europe with Scandinavia will have more F-35 in stock than Russia has all fighters.
At current Polish re-arnament rate and Russian attrition rate of land based assets, by 2028 Poland alone will have advantage in everything but nukes.
Everyone and their grandmother is now building integrated air and missile defense systems, so the only conventional card that Russia has (cruise missiles, SRBMs, Sahed drone spam) will also expire in a few years.
Nuclear card is a blank - what's the endgame? Nuke Ukraine? Then everyone will throw nuclear non proliferation out of the window and get their own nukes. Downgrading Russia status and making nuclear threats moot (if they aren't already
).
Nuke NATO? Wanna bet Russian generals will pick better option of "Why nuke the world, when I can just put a bunch on bullets into that guy head" - the ghost of Prigozin is strong especially, if it will be spiced up by potential nuclear annihilation.
Oh and don't even ask about hybrid-warfare - genius Russia is now revealing all their cards with espionage, cyber warfare, industrial sabotage, corruption of goverment officials, using migrants as meat waves or GPS jamming - real smart to tell us where our gaps are a few years ahead
Tell me, if this is how (Russia) winning looks like?

it's true that Russian propaganda seems to switch into advertising fascism rather than talking about winning.
I am not currently sure who to ask about what they think is winning over there

Re: Russia-Ukraine War
Another cyber attack on the German conservative-center-party CDU. It is the third attack on a major German party, right before multiple upcoming important elections. The last two attacks could be traced back to Russias intelligence service. The attacks are similar to the cyber attacks on the US democrats during the Hillary vs Trump elections, combined with a huge disinformation campaign in the population. The latter has not happened so far.
It is believed to be an actor on an intelligence service level, trying to manipulate the elections (again).
The last attacks showed again and again, Russia has long started its war against the West and democracy.

There really is no other way to describe Russia's losses of men and equipment. Another country would've been bankrupt.

I think Russia is living on credit, for both the cost in people and economy, the real payment will come after

Russia raises taxes to pay for the war.
https://ca.news.yahoo.com/russia-plans- ... 25102.html
Russia either can't or won't salvage a ship that carried cruise missiles that was sunk about a week ago when the mine sweeper was sunk/hit (?). It just sitting there sunk in relatively shallow water.
~4 more patrol boats destroyed recently?
Dam just up stream of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant attacked. If blown up it could flood the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

True. Because war economy is for most people an abstract concept, people struggle to grasp that most investments are happening in areas that produce no return on investment long term when strictly seen from financial perspective. Sure - short term this is good but long term relocating money from investment in infrastructure, education and health (they got to pull money from somewhere) hurts the country in long term in reduced education levels and less competitiveness.
This is good indicator that their war chest they have building up from 2014 is used up and now they have to resort to more conventional unpopular measures to finance the war.

Imagine building up a warchest since 2014 as a country with one of the biggest military - and then being unable to conquer Ukraine.

human cost is hidden, but how hidden will it remain when the loss will look certain. The war internally is mostly running on propaganda now, as nothing real is being reported.Warenwolf wrote: ↑Mon, 3. Jun 24, 10:29True. economic cost can't be hidden, but it can be made not discussed publicly. Sadly I think that one has a while to go, Russians are okay ignoring living conditions we would find horrific
cost in repressions, to be seen. In 30s Russians were okay with them.

Yes, that being said the fight is not over yet and Russia certainly is in in the current situation gaining momentum which can be really dangerous for Ukraine.

all the more reasons to remove restrictions on weapons soon.
I hope they will do it quietly without announcing it first
