Guy stops at the side of the road to retrieve a hat. Police officer suddenly shots at him, according to the officer because he thought the guy had a gun. Thankfully the shot misses and does not injure anyone (it hit a passing vehicle), despite scaring everyone involved.

So Russia has had enough of Google restricting 17 of it's channels on YouTube, and its courts have fined Google two undecillion roubles, to put that into real money that comes out to around $20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Now that's a fine even Musk couldn't pay, actually if all the countries put their annual GDP together to cover the fine, there still wouldn't be enough to pay it off. Something tells me they ain't going to be able to collect on that fine.

Apparently there's a new VR heatset metro 2023 game. Not made directly by all the Metro people but by Vertigo games. The game launches on November 7, 2024.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2669 ... Awakening/

Dragon Age Veilguard sales might be down a bit. 74/100 with 12783 reviews on steam. Game might have some crashing issues.

Stalker 2 launches on November 20, 2024.

So excited! It had a long way to go, so happy for the devs that they are close to a release. :)

I like how Russia even admits its court system is more of a joke, calling it "symbolic".

I shall remember this one

It's only a joke or symbolic when you effectively have control over it. If you are powerless to ignore it and on the receiving end, then it may not be so funny.

Should be interesting Intel is releasing two new gpus December 12, 2024. The ~$249 usd one might be about the same as a 4060ti but with 12gb vram vs 8 gb and for a much lower price. Need to wait to see actually benchmarks since all the tech companies seem to not be totally honest. AMD and Nvidia announcing new gpus at ces sometime between January 7-10, 2025.

Haven't given much thought to the Intel GPUs, I prefer Nvidia over the others. Then again, the extra Vram on that $249 usd one sounds decent, more Vram the better. Especailly we games like more Vram these days. Would be interesting on the benchmarks. As for the new gpus from the others. have to wait and see. The real problem is, that the power requirements on the last gen went up a fair amount. And iin this day and age, where electricity is raising, then not the best move to increase the power needs. Power costs will raise in the UK in spring. Computers should be more energy efficient. not pushing things to their limits.

Re new Intel gpus, Intel may have to up their game in their driver support, that is in the frequency, applicability and ease-of-use of their driver updates. It's not that they don't do any driver support now, more that it is currently a complicated process to decide what drivers you should allow to update given the major OEM integrated elements of many user systems and hardware.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger abruptly resigns/retires on December 1, 2024. Could mean a lot of things.

Another CEO story.

Insurance company CEO Brian Thompson was killed in New York. It seems as if the motive is linked to his work. The health insurance company seems to be daemonic even for American standards, when it comes to denials of payment.

The most interesting part here is the reaction. To put it mildly, grief does not seem to be that widespread. Or to put it bluntly, a song about his death is currently trending on most relevant social media platforms and does not paint him in a very sympathetic light. Over all it seems as if this is sentiment is pretty bipartisan.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that this is a new era, but I will say that people today held a killer look alike contest in New York and to quote the New York times:

„The winner [of the look alike contest], a 39-year-old who does data entry for a labor union, declined to give his name but said that he celebrated the actions of the gunman and that he believed it was important to make people understand how people were hurting under the health care system.“

Interestingly the article was first titled: „In grim twist, some root for suspect in United Healthcare CEO‘s killing“ but is now titled: „Some on Social Media See Suspect in C.E.O. Killing as a Folk Hero“.

From what I have seen on social media, I think the word „some“ is doing quite a bit of heavy lifting here. Maybe „many“, „thousands“ or „a s**t load“ would have been more precise.

Pretty wild situation in Slovakias NHS - seems like a lot of doctors quitting their jobs due to bad working conditions. And it seems that the answer to that is that they are threatend to get arrested for doing so (that's the really wild part...). Main escalation could be at the start of 2025.

Interesting thing is that the main reason is a protest against the privatisation of clinics. Always thought this is a german problem only :gruebel: (but then again I'm kind of ignorant as in not having up-to-date knowledge on a global scale on that topic).

All in all to me that's a little forecast for other NHS. IMHO all NHS are crumbling (even in Germany which was some kind of "beacon project") not only due to overtaxation of the staff during the pandemic but also due to a lot of personal missing because both of low recruiting and a lot of people going into retirement.

it's interesting how a solution to problems in public healthcare is viewed in - let people try to survive on their own in private medicine, not our problem anymore

Microsoft allows people with unsupported hardware to install win 11 at their own risk.

https://www.tomsguide.com/computing/win ... he-trouble

Microsoft updated its support page to warn users not to run Windows 11 on an unsupported PC, but the company also has official instructions on installing the operating system on devices that don't meet minimum requirements. Generally, that means PCs with a TPM 2.0 chip — a security chip required for Windows 11.
