Both sides use such figures for their own propaganda purposes. Frankly, this is particularly true of Ukraine and Russia, both of whom are well known for their tendency for corruption and lies. Neither side can be trusted to tell the truth about...anything really.
Hello Observe. I agree with you. Seems to me if there is such a high casualty rate on both sides, who is left to fight?

This video is two weeks old and I'm afraid the young lawyer is nowwhere to be found now.

It's a lot older as far as I remember. (I watched it already - we might have linked that one here as well). At the end it also states 9th February, Moscow :gruebel:

Uhh ok, thx for the clarification, just saw Daniil loaded it up 2 weeks ago but missed the date at the end. Guess that's even worse for the young lad.

No gas through Ukraine anymore.

It doesn't appear to be much of a news however, except for breakaway region in Moldova that's doing 3 or so day blackouts, in winter. They weren't ready for not having Russian gas.

I will look around later if Russia was ready

Fridman was the weakest part of this interview - in less than hour, I started to be annoyed by his constant "I have a dream of Trump-Putin-Zelensky in one room".

The whole 3 hours could be summarize with Zelensky trying to explain the amount of suffering of Ukrainian people, Putin total disregards to international rules and how Minsk agreements fallen apart multiple times...which Fridman just follow with the trash comments of 'I have a dream of everyone getting together".

People should really get back to classic school of interviews - "just ask the question and STFU, nobody care or want to hear your opinion as interviewer".

It would've been a good laugh - if it wasn't about a dead serious topic. I've nothing but respect for Zelenskyy to endure things like that.

I haven't found the time to watch the whole thing, but I have seen a few snippets and read some of the comments. Not really an interview as much as it was a conversation, but that's what podcasts are I suppose. If nothing else, it gave Zelenskyy a forum to pitch his views. I imagine he might have won over a few erstwhile detractors.

Apparently the North Koreans don't contribute much to Russia's war effort. They still eat ammo but it seems that they're not very good in the battlefield.
According to Ukrainian and South Korean intelligence, between 3,000 to 4,000 North Koreans have died since coming to fight in Ukraine, but recent footage of captured soldiers shows they might not have even known who they were fighting, or where they were dying.

Seems like long predicted annexation of Belarus is moving slowly ahead. With Trump in power in US and US basically inert internationally, provided Putin does not face immediate internal issues, one can assume he has a time window of 2-4 years to do it with 0 opposition.

Trump has revealed his plan to end the war:
Reuters wrote:"If we don't make a 'deal,' and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries," Trump said.
I am going out on a limb here, this will probably not be enough to get Russia to stop it's attack. I hope to be proven wrong though.

Apparently, there is a meeting being set up between Putin and Trump. The last time Biden spoke with Putin was in 2021. Discussions are the first step. I'm guessing that if Putin doesn't stop fighting, Trump will contribute more support for Ukraine. Likewise, if Zelenskyy isn't willing to stop, Trump will stop supporting Ukraine. Cease fire must happen quickly. After that, the diplomats can dig in and work out a long-term solution.

Trump can't stop the killing, he has no leverage nor desire; if anything, he can help though to kill more Ukrainians.

you can mark my words for history

the only way to stop it fast is to remove Putin. I think Trump has no guts for that, plus it's Trump we are talking about here

I was surprised too. I thought that there are already sanctions. I had no idea that USA buys significant amount from Russia.

Then again, Trump's number for trade inbalance between EU and USA was way off too. Where does he get his "facts"?

He is jealous because at the end of 2024 RU will not sell uranium to the USA, but it will sell to the EU.

I agree with you that any peace deal which results in Putin walking away with part of Ukraine is just an interim peace and break before next war - Just as Minsk treaties were.
However - do not underestimate that Putin is equally supported by the system around him just as he is supporting them. If Putin disappeared tomorrow, nothing would change.

Pure guess work here. Probably yes and no.

Putin is the government, Putin is Russia, there's no other authority or government agency that is above him. He didn't build a proper structure, ideology that I know of, to continue his legacy. He only dipped Russia into fascism.

How will the apolitical mass, the corrupted mass, the fascist mass will negotiate this after his disappearance is unclear. Maybe they will look inward and dismantle things further to make profit. Maybe they will look for an easier target than Ukraine. Maybe they are convinced by his lunacy and will act on the fantasy that Poland isn't actually in NATO.

But one thing I think I can say more surely, it'll be different.

And in this war, you have to go for different. Because Putin's plans are clear to all except for Trump.
