Perhaps a less open ended question:

With the latest steam install (completely vanilla ) what should my folder look like?

The addon folder from a fresh X3:AP 3.1 installation should look like this: http://i.imgur.com/k1hJpii.png

First of all thank you!

At least I know I'm crazy. I'm out of ideas unless steam is feeding me a garbage vanilla.

The only other constant is the no steam exe. I tried a fresh install and brand new xrm. I caught a post somewhere from Paul saying some sectors might be unstable very soon after starting but stabilize after some play, though mine are varied.

I suppose I can go get a new exe but my sound drivers and video drivers should be new if that matters. Video drivers auto install and I am willing to bet my sound drivers are newer than the base game....

Cease fire, I am getting the same error in vanilla. Fun. No clue what to do now. Guess I'll troll the tech support forums for a day or two and give up on this, I knew rebirth could not have fallen far from the tree and what a mess that was.

AP and TC are very stable. Most likely you have a problem with your installation. If you're playing AP and using the nosteam.exe, there's only one version. I'd suggest you verify your game files with Steam as a first step.

I believe I have solved my issue: due to the nature of my crash I was digging in sounds and sound drivers and simular things (music transition from zones and stations seemed likely as a stutter crash cause since I was getting it then) but after docking over 20 times and jumping and gate passing for the last 2 hours I believe it to be much much more simple...

Run as administrator and windows xp sp3 compatibility mode.

While digging for mod conflicts that weren't there it seems this was the SIMPLE and DIRECT cause.

Will post angrily if I prove myself wrong but I should have got an error 5 min in like usual so I'll call this one solved.

Good advice! Sadly I had tried this, with crashes every other gate zone in.

no steam MUST be run as administrator and windows xp sp3 if you have my issue. Doing so will solve this issue. (Or did for me)

I hope to save anyone else the stress! (and you know digging through complicated things when the simplest solution was the only one..doh)

Edit: Currently testing all the other starts to see if I can get it to CTD me! No luck yet so I think I am good.

Edit again: 4 hours straight without CTD. Looks great! Now to work on my readtext error stations and inexplicable "Argon shipyards" in Terran space selling "ice" that only fits in TLs.

Doesn't crash though!

If you have to run X3 as Administrator in XP SP3 compatibility mode, there really is a problem with your system. Which OS do you use?
Do you have any so-called security software running? I speak about antivirus and other third-party firewalls or security suites.

Malwarebytes and ZoneAlarm, running Windows 7. This is the only game I run into this issue with, even other egosoft games seem to run fine, admittedly that only means Rebirth, but I never experienced the lag or crashing problems others reported with it even.

Just this one, and that goes for the no steam exe from the site, as well as just trying to run it in steam with no steam overlay. I tried everything I could think of. I suppose it is possible that ZoneAlarm was preventing it from hitting the net, but since I have only ran the steam version as *modified* I don't see how that could be. Also my Malwarebytes doesn't actively scan so well I don't see how that could be it wither.

Though I have not tried it with run as administrator off and compatiblity mode on.

Something in your system is causing the issue. I've never had to run any of the X3 games in either compatibility mode or as an administrator. Of course, I don't run the Steam versions of them either. My OS was Win 7 until I got my new machine with 8.1 preinstalled. No problems with either. :gruebel:

Must be why I had such an issue finding a solution, it is good that I am the only o e so far then, what a headache. I actually got the idea from a Google search for X3 albion prelude CTD. It was on a news or information site. Very through walk through on crashing, but off the path I suppose.

I guess since I am the only one this is fine. I do run at least 10 games a week, why would this be literally the only game that has had issues? Well no I guess I have to run games made in the mid 90s like this, but thats recommended or required... Diablo 2 for example has to be ran in compatibility mode.

Well I am getting off subject and this has nothing to do with XRM. Any mods that might cause readtext for XRM?

They can spawn in unknown sectors as well as in race sectors - I don't know the exact rule for that. If you have found such a shipyard and want to "pin" it to a sector, dock a ship in them.

In my XRM games, I search mostly the unknown sectors for these stations. They can be placed very far away from gates and even a Military Scanner isn't enough to spot them when they are extremely far away. In these cases, use your own eyes to search the dark space for unusual patterns. When I find such, I switch to my Split Jaguar Explorer (max speed: 811 m/s - it isn't the overall fastest ship, but the fastest ship with an Military Scanner) and examine the area closer.
Thanks, the tip to park a ship in the station was most helpful :)

I'm stuck with another question/problem, considering the >types< files, in specific the laser mask. As far as I understand each turret gets its 32-bit encoded laser mask from TCockpits, in TLaser however we have more than 32 IDs. So question is.. how do I make the connection here?

edit: figured it out. subtypes!

Was only stations, the shield generation factories I think but not positive. I went ahead and just reinstalled going slowly and trying out each mod and script and couldn't reproduce the readtext. I did skip the updated bonus pack stuff. I usually install the station building script and the agent thing but it seems like those might be my culprits. Both are the fully updated versions, but I don't know enough about XRM and x3 in general to say for sure if they're compatible. Will likely try out the rest of lucike's stuff tonight since those mods sound so darned awesome (on paper, I have a hell of a time in game)

On a side note I also got argon shipyards selling ice when I tried last time. Oh and those Argon stations were Terran owned. Yep I messed that save up.

The problem with Argon shipyards sounds quite familiar... the reason for this problem is a conflicting TFactories. Are you using the Complex Cleaner script (you have to install it before any XRM stuff) or other scripts which alter your TFactories file?

Got it to happen again, would an incorrect wall cat and dat for bounce do it? Gotta make sure I have the XRM one I think I have the wrong one.

Edit: yep installed wrong, I think I got it right finally. No errors I can find now, but will restart for good measure, hopefully this time I can take over the universe.

If you are playing a game with Bounce's cat/dat files, you haven't read the very first entry of its thread correctly...

Green Circle in Front of Weapon Name

Post by Lokked »

Hello,

I have XRM and a couple other mods/scripts installed recommended on the main XRM post, and I have a question:

In game, when I look at any ship's stats, and the weapons each support, each weapon has a duplicate, but there is a Green Circle in front of the name. For example, There would be:

Particle Accelerator Cannon
oParticle Accelerator Cannon
Ion Disruptor
oIon Disruptor
etc

I figured, cool: There are modified versions (perhaps upgraded?) of the normal weapons. When I started obtaining some of these through Bartering, I noticed the stats are SIGNIFICANTLY worse for all of the Green Circle weapons.

Is this my bad in installing the Mod, or is it intended?

This indicates a mod or script conflict - your game is broken. Which mods and scripts have you installed and in which order?

Yeah read the thing but really didn't get it. Thought "Of course I need a wall file.. why would I download this without wanting one?!"

Opps. Works now, or at least until about 3 days (played) into game, then slows down and tends to do the music repeat thing every once in a while (Where the game freezes and the music plays a 10~ sec loop) Probably my fault I built 4 big complexes had the race improvement mod pumping out fleets and was clearing the asteroid belt with a Mobile Mining base and about 15 miners. (trying everything out)

Not overly worried, I'm still mostly playing around with the different starts trying to figure out what I like, I plan to play precisely the start I want and want to try each to discover which is my start.
