Yea, that's not going to happen. No one will accept demilitarization of Ukraine. Russia will have to back down on that one.
Isn't that why you put crazy clauses/mandates in? "See, we dropped this demand, so what are you going to compromise upon?"

and Russians would reply equivalent to "you and what army?"

for this to work you have to show that either Russia or Russian economy can be fully collapsed, not on its last legs like right now

I got to listen to that snippet of what Witkoff said.

Russia will agree to Article 5 equivalent provided by US and Europe, but not to Article 5 provided by NATO.

There are two possibilities, either Lavrov was too drunk at that party or Trump administration is on drugs.

EDIT

more so, while every English news source is quoting Witkoff, none of pro Kremlin sources mention the security guarantees when they quote him.

perhaps he should read Putin's actual statement at the end. I can link it if you want to read that word salad. Putin talks about US wanting to understand Russia's security concerns, the real reason for the conflict and the "pain" that Ukrainians have caused. He does talk about security for Ukrainians after the war - that's the demilitarization topic. No mention of US or Europeans providing that.

Either this make no sence, because this would be basically the same...or they are counting on it that this will be fake/unbinding guarantee, possibly even that majority of countries would chiken out of it.

feel free to call me out as wrong, but since Russians never made a statement to that effect and for last 8 years said the opposite, this is indeed nonsense.

Trump also just posted (again!) that Ukraine is at fault for this whole war, so indirectly confirming what I said by repeating Russian propaganda.

Witkoff should sober up.

I thought it was clear, Russia knows Trump is totally TACO. The US can make a security guarantee saying "if you touch Ukraine again after this agreement, we will intervene", but Putin has already seen that trump's threats are all hot air.

After a few years, maybe less, Russia will attack again and America will say "if you don't stop within two weeks we'll sanction you", knowing fully that they'll do no such thing. Trump's two weeks never expire.

I suppose yes, Russians could have said that to Trump in private, and not ever admit that publicly, knowing that they don't have to honor this and Trump will never follow through

Something tells me that Zelensky, Trump meeting didn't go the way that Trump thought it was going to go.
